actually chuck d did address flava flav and his behavior, but like the use of the word nikka in rap, flava flav is promoted by corporate america because black men debasing themselves is very entertaining

the fact that 90% of rap songs use nikka and other profanity is the main reason why rap music is garbage and detrimental to black people and black culture
So what has he said about Flav? Flav has always been a c00n, he was shucking and jiving making black men look bad even during PE's height. How can he denounce Flav now?

"nikka" was a staple in hiphop before the music became garbage. Your point has and will always be invalid.

he said he was bothered by his behavior and apologized for it

nikka has became a staple of hip hop around the same time rap music became dominated by corporations, at the rise of gangsta rap, before that nikka or even other profanity was used sparingly

That apology was him saving face, I take it with a grain of salt. How can he criticize VH1 for exploiting Flav when he did the same thing? Like I said, Flav was shucking and jiving long before VH1 came along and gave him a show. He's always been a c00n. Chuck used/exploited Flav and his c00ning too. Flav was a big reason that PE was a multiplatinum group at their height.

nikka and profanity were staples in the music before the corporations took completely over. There's a lot of great gangsta rap by the way. Death certificate is arguably the best hiphop album of all time. nikka is just a word, the problems with hiphop and why it's gone from sugar to shyt are a lot more complex than the use of the word nikka.

you can take it however you want, you asked why he hasnt denounced flava flav, i was just pointing out that he has

and flava flav was just one member of the group, public enemy the group was never going around shucking and jiving

nikka and profanity were not staples of rap until the early nineties, you can go back and listen to pre 90's rap if you dont believe me, and nikka and profanity are directly linked to why rap has gone down because profanity represents a limited vocabulary and in turn represents limited subject matter which in turn causes limited creative space

So not only the reason we are in this position.... but the reason we stay in this position (as a whole) is because of rap music.

Damn so, gentrification, institutionalized racism, the war on drugs, historical mental brainwashing, the wealth gap can be solved by placing rap music in the bushes?

Only if they knew to get rid of rap in Greenwood, Oklahoma back in the 1920's those people wouldn't have had their business and people burnt up.

I guess Fred Hampton shouldn't have been playing his rap music so loud and that sh1t wouldn't have happened to him.

If travon martin was listing to rap music on the day he was shot then we just need to go ahead and give zimmerman a NAACP award.

You can't say you love hip hop but hate rap music. That doesn't make sense, because without rap music the culture wouldn't have been as popular around the world and with white people.

There's a lot of cultural self hate. Rap is just one of the manifestation of hip hop culture... it hasn't always been beneficial, positive, or authentic.. but it's part of the fabric of hip hop and African American culture. There has never been anything from African Americans that hasn't been exploited and used by others but rap shouldn't be singled out just because it's the way some thugs express themselves.

Come on now. You think profanity is the worst popular trope in hip-hop? This is what I'm talking about when I say "low-hanging fruit." Nihilistic hedonism, selfish individualism, rampant commercialism, glorification of violence and fantastical gangsta lifestyles, etc, are all worse than profanity. Those are actual cultural values that contribute to Black suffering.

im not following how it doesnt make sense, im criticizing the corporatizing of the music, rap music becoming popular with white people is what led to the corruption of rap music

so in fact if i really loved hip hop it follows i would hate rap music for popularizing it and letting outsiders into the culture

There's a lot of cultural self hate. Rap is just one of the manifestation of hip hop culture... it hasn't always been beneficial, positive, or authentic.. but it's part of the fabric of hip hop and African American culture. There has never been anything from African Americans that hasn't been exploited and used by others but rap shouldn't be singled out just because it's the way some thugs express themselves.

im not sure what the lecture is for, im the one that pointed out that rap music is just one element of hip hop

im not sure why you think you have to lecture me on rap, you actually think you know more about rap music than me? :heh:

if it makes you feel better, when i say rap is garbage, its just a general statement and refereeing to the present state, there are plenty of exceptions to my statement

but im a student of hip hop and a student of rap music

and rap music, in its current state, because its controlled by corporations and demonic black people, i believe that it is not vital to hip hop culture or african americans, rap music is more vital to corporate interests and a few sellout blacks than it is to black people, so i feel comfortable saying rap music is garbage, i say that as an artistic critique and as a student of the music and culture and as an intelligent black person who has studied his history

the only thing redeeming about rap music nowadays, that i cant front about, is the beats, the hip hop beats today are quite incredible, but lyrically rap music is basura

i think what i just said, not the words you put in my my mouth, what i said is that the increased use of profanity has caused rap music to have limited subject matter

No, you said:

the fact that 90% of rap songs use nikka and other profanity is the main reason why rap music is garbage and detrimental to black people and black culture

So you quite clearly said that profanity is the "main reason" why rap music is detrimental to Black people/culture, which means that you think profanity is more deterimental than those cultural values I listed, which is what I challenged with my post. If you don't want to stand by your statement, that's fine, but I didn't put any words in your mouth.

yeah that is why rap music is garbage, as long as rappers are getting paid they dont care about the culture

im starting to come up empty when i ask how is rap music beneficial to black people

rap music ...WAS beneficial to black people because it started on the idea of more peace and less physical fighting/shooting. then it moved to the real conscious stuff that wasnt just conscious about africa/black history ,etc. but also consciousness(PE,xclan, etc) about whats going on with cism and the people in charge(ice cube). i mean Queen L. did have a song saying Who you callin a B....

i mean KRS did tell us about Edutainment.

a lot of black student unions were started because of that music PE and them were spitting . that even pushed a black college movement, and a college movement amongst young black folks in general, especially young brothas. so hiphip did some good. but as of today. uhhh i aint seeing it. lol.

the only good its doing is getting some hood boys out of the hood and making them rich. thats cool. but at what cost? the cost of them assisting THE MAN in ruining other blacks youths lives by way of messaging over the airwaves, internet, etc.
