He is talking about how kanye is played up as the front man and always talks about himself, what he wants to do, and what's he's going to do when he has an entire team behind him. I guess he is saying that kanye should market himself as being apart of an interchangeable band instead of just "kanye west". You could say this about a whole bunch of people these days in any genre. They are seen as THE star instead of the culmination of a group effort

He could also be talking about how kanye will talk about what he wants to do in interviews and the claims he makes in songs but at the end of the day they are just self centered rants. I could be completely wrong but this is how I interpreted it

This is terrible headline. He's not really talking about Kanye he's talking about soloists in general and just using Kanye as an example.

He's saying hip hop lost credibility when it moved from groups to soloists. It's a point he's made a few times...

the problem with Kanye is that it stopped being about the art, the culture, or even making money. At this point Kanye's music is a appandage of his brand same as his Twitter account, same as the videogame he's releasing, etc.

IMO that's why GOOD Music floundered under his leadership. Kanye could never put anything before him.

can't only blame Kanye. might as well blame the real problem in hip hop. which is Wayne, 50 Cent, Young Thug, Eminem, Drake, Post Malone, the list could go on and on and on.
