Gil's math aint mathing, plus (1) Kobe wouldn't take a major paycut in any scenario (2) HE WONT (yes I know the correct word is wouldn't) GONE LEAVE THE LAKERS.

I know CP3 was just tryna be respectful by hearing him out. Plus the trade (Dec 2011) was AFTER Bron/Wade/Bosh (prior to 2010-11 season) teamed up. So him bringing Bron into this don't make any sense

All in all I like Gil's opinions and the new format with Josiah but yeah he was coming up with some BS on this lol

You have to watch 59:47 for the caveat. Gil said they’d have 30 mil in cap space with Kobe off the books :comeon: As if the Lakers were really going to toss him in the bushes to sign Bron and Melo.
That part was confusing but I think he meant even before Kobe being off the books they’d have 24-30 million and then when Kobe got off the books they’d have another 30 million to sign more max players. That’s why they thought it’d fukk up the league fur 10 years.
Cause Lakers would have Kobe, Dwight, CP plus 2 max players then win their rings and when Kobe got too old his contract was coming up and they’d then have Dwight, cp, the two max players they first signed then the ability to sign 2 more max players. No w obviously this is contingent on the Lakers ditching Kobe which wouldn’t happen. But also the Lakers could have given Kobe an under the table type deal where he takes less money for the wink wink. That could be why Marc Cuban was the one that was mad because he saw that because he himself possibly gave Dirk a wink wink deal.

I could be wrong though and this why I dislike Gilbert Arenas sometimes. He’s knowledgeable and entertaining but he definitely gets a lot of important details wrong or misconstrued.

Dan Lebatard just had a topic on this last week after the Draymond/KD sitdown where they completely twisted the narrative of their fight/KD's departure. Its cool that athletes are getting their own platforms to tell their stories but if they're gonna make up shyt then some of these nikkas need to be reigned in.

It’s possible the Lakers were considering trading for Dwight earlier but when the CP3 plan got nixed they aborted the entire mission to regroup a new strategy? I’m playing devils advocate here for the sake of conversation cause like I said in my previous post I take a lot of Gilbert says with a huge grain of salt.

And I 100% agree with not trust this new wave of “athlete journalism”. I watch and support but these dudes don’t check any facts. A real journalist in this situation would have did the extra homework of looking up the Lakers salary cap at the time and talk to multiple sources

Dwight only missed 6 games and averaged basically the same points and rebounds in the regular season with Houston the next year that he did with the Lakers. You're omitting that Dwight and Kobe clashed over how the offense needed to be run.

And that Kobe couldn't physically sustain that level of play from the second part of the season for a much longer period. It was like his last hurrah as an athlete.
Dwight might have only missed 6 games, but there starting 5 as a whole only played 7 games together.

It was the talk for a while. You had Dwight saying he wanted to play with Kobe in 1/11.

But he was apart of the cp3 plan. Gilbert not wrong there.

This. A way more likely scenario would be CP3 and Kobe clashing in the first year and them parting ways. Lakers swore Kobe+Nash+D12 was gonna dominate too.:flabbynsick: :russ:

Nash was washed up at that time. A prime CP3 and Dwight shuts down the West for the next couple of seasons.

He be all over the place. nikka said the max was at 12 milly back in 2011:stopitslime:

nikka the last time the max was that low it was 1991. How the fukk does he not know that when he himself was a max player:what:

This nikka was getting 111 milly for 6yrs. The math says that AINT a 12 mil per. CP3 couldn’t even bring himself casually cosign that nonsense

I can’t even buy that story honestly. Gil just be out there just be throwing random shyt out there to suit his hyperbole

I still say he probably gets 2016 but D12 & CP3 were only in their early 30s so LA would've re-tooled and who knows what that looks like. But besides that ring over the Warriors I'm taking that Laker big 3 over Miami's.

And Kawhi would've never won in SA, if that happens Uncle Dennis doesn't have anything to get the big head over. Do they still force their way out and if not Raptors are still at 0 rings

If you really sit and think you can draw a whole family tree of lines and shyt going back to that trade lol, everything would be different

Stop. From 2012 to 2014 spurs had won of the greatest most efficient nba offensive ever. The 2014 spurs had won of the highest point differentials in the nba playoffs EVER. Only team in recent memory who might could see the 2014 spurs are the KD warriors cause you got literally 3 of the top 10 shooters in the history of basketball one one team, and one of them is also arguably the greatest scorer ever.

If we would’ve got CP3 we were gonna trade for Dwight right after.

The whole plan was dialed up perfectly. As much as I’ve shytted on cokehead jimbo this debacle was only his fault in the sense that it probably didn’t help us that most of the league execs didn’t really fukk with him like that.

Other than that, it was one of the most brilliant trade schemes ever. I’m almost inclined to believe that Dr. Buss came up with it before he passed and cokehead ran with it :ehh:
