This is not an either or situation...there has to be a happy balance between "it's all my fault" and "I didn't know jack shyt till I read it on HuffPo".

You are being obtuse because you are acting like politics are about telling the God's honest truth and everyone will just accept that and give you a pass.
Being disconnected from a scandal (no matter how ridiculous or inconsequential it may be considered by some) is not a good look.

The knock against Obama is that he is not acting like this is a big enough deal and thinks that saying he was not personally aware of it and even when his people found out about it they never bothered to clue him in is acceptable.
That shyt aint acceptable, bruh especially the fact that the IRS thing was known by folks in his administration but none of them thought ist was worth telling him about. It plays to the exisitng narrative that he is not dialed in to the business of running the government and that he is a terible manager.

He should say he didn't know about the IRS misconduct when it was happening but once he was alerted to it (at the same time his advisors found out) he took action. That response would have made him and his administration appear to have been in front of the issue and not cause them to resort to playing catch-up.

It also is a lot different than admitting that you (as the fukking President of the United States) were kept out of the loop by subordinates for so long that you didn't even realize you had a public relations disaster about to bite you in the ass until it was already being reported in the media.

One response makes you look authoritative and Presidential...the other makes you look like George W. Bush.
