If I were eligible and lived in a solidly blue state I'd probably vote libertarian or green

in a state in danger of swinging red though :whew: not a chance

What makes Libertariantards better then Liberals or Conservatives? You realize they want to end ALL government involvement, such as ending public schools, making America an isolationist country and lowering regulations on corporations?

Who said I was a Libertarian? You assume too much.

That's why i don't understand why people vote in the first place. USA is the HNIC yet we only get to choose between 2 candidates.

wouldnt it logically make more sense to abstain from the process altogether then to waste a vote on a 3rd party candidate?

I sure do care. I voted for Nader in FL my very first time voting. I still cut myself every morning.

In what ways is it done? by voting can have a huge impact on your community

What do you mean? I'm talking about everyone who is on this third party is going to save the world ish. I mean we need to have a serious discussion about the party system and its merits.

The problem is people wait to late in the game to try and vote for these 3rd party candidates. At this point nobody gives a shyt and you just wasting a vote.

Time needs to be spent building up these candidates, get some local support, and build a movement. Why arent we hearing anything from these parties every year? If you have a movement going then one of the 2 major parties will take notice and incorporate a lot of your ideas and cater to you aka the Tea Party.

I think the plan would be to start increasing the popular vote margin of third parties so you know, make them eligible for more ballots and debates next time, build infrastructure and local power, etc

it would be at least a 30 year game

Helps lend credibility and let those in charge know there are people who are engaged in the political process but have had enough of voting for Republicans/Democrats

how so? you're at least making your opinion known. not voting at all could mean many things

not to mention the process involves a lot of stuff besides the presidential race

the logic being, by abstaining:

1- you refuse to cosign the 2 party fukkkery
2- you delegitimize the process, prove it for the bullshyt that it is

may not work on an individual level but if every disgruntled voter did this...and the elections come down to 20% voter participation, itll make it a mockery

people wouldnt think this way if it wasnt 5% of the popular vote for federal funding. 2.5 or 3% would be better.

a third party vote is a clear signal. a non-vote is just another drop in the sea of non-voters. not to mention that unlike the third party dream of increasing popular vote over time, the non-vote dream of just delegitimizing the voting process is near impossible. you end up letting people have power over you without the slightest say in it

or maybe you just stayed home cause it's too cold outside. there's no way to tell the difference, since the result is the same

ultimately the political system is never gonna pander to those that don't/won't vote. it's not like something's gonna magically change if the voter turnout gets down to 20%. the politicians would love it since they would only have to pander to such a small group
