wait, you mean the super badass chris jericho who beat goldberg up and choked him out with a stage 5 stu hart special secret technique he learned in the dungeon backed down from van dam?

You notice he ALWAYS brings that story up as a way of "justifying" his toughness on some "Hey guys, REMEMBER that time I got one over on Goldberg! I sure showed everyone not to mess with me!"

A real tough guy doesn't have to brag about the times he wins a fight, usually because its mundane at that point.

RVD was garbage in the ring when it came to not hurting his opponent

Jericho was used to working with safe guys like X-Pac and Triple H at the time

I can see the frustration

That's why RVD really only had a month-long run in the main event in 2006 and that was it. None of the top guys ever really wanted to work a program with the guy. He was too blitted off that green to see the forest for the trees

HBGOAT put it perfectly

While i agree that van dams psychology left much to be desired, shawn talking about shyt looking choreographed is hilarious, this is a guy who stomped his foot before a superkick, yet the opponent is supposed to dumb enough to walk right into it after hearing him "tune up the band", guess it doesnt matter really, rvd went over on cena, shawn never did

HHH didn't complain publicly but the incident at Survivor Series 2002 almost killed him. It's a testament to Hunter's toughness that he was able to finish that match.

Superkick was the finish though, a la Peoples Elbow, Hogan Legdrop, etc. You watch a 20 minute HBK match and watch a 20 minute RVD match and tell me what match looked more scripted.

He moved. It's a testament he is alive after being such an idiot lol.

I am not doubting RVD has hurt people, but everyone has hurt people in this business except like Bret Hart and Hogan.

RVD definitely had a reputation though. It's one of those things where the boys have too much pride to come out and say it, but RVD definitely had his name stamped. What a talent though. A shame that he never got to work with athletes like HBK more often.

You can't just say something like that and act like it is a fact with zero proof. You do not wrestle, you are not backstage, you are not one of the "boys" lol.

And what pride? Triple H/X-Pac/Michaels/Nash have pride? They have talked shyt about everyone in the business on every single topic whether on TV or during shoots.

Waltman was asked about RVD in a shoot I just saw and he said he was great to work with, and then buried some wrestler in the next sentence.

I don't remember HBK burying anyone that he worked with when it came to actually working in the ring. So speak for the others (I know X-Pac buried Jericho's ring work at one point). All I know is that HBK could adapt to anyone and he is a pretty good gauge for talent. I think he was pretty fair on his assessment and was criticizing RVD constructively. He didn't go into the whole other thing of RVD being too stiff when he got his shyt in.

As far as pride, I mean in the sense of the guys not wanting to admit when they got hurt legitimately by another workers' move. They usually blame themselves or just write it off as "just another day at the office".

The problem with RVD has always been that he was pretty careless. Look I'm a libertarian including the issue of marijuana, but as a professional wrestler it can hinder you if you're on the stuff. Even Val Venis will admit to that.

so you're telling me shawn going out and giving away the match is about to end by doing the same routine in the EXACT same order (duck a clothesline, tito santana forearm, nip up,atomic drop, punch, body slam, elbow drop, tune up the band, superkick) is more realistic than vam kicking the shyt out of you than frog splashing you?

You're talking about finishes here. Finishes have always been pretty choreographed. What I'm talking about is the selling. RVD has had one (count em, one) main event WWE match that we can judge while Shawn has had dozens. It's not a fair comparison at all.

I'm talking about End-The-PPV main event matches. That would narrow it down to Cena (and, to be fair, the 2002 elimination chamber)

The Cena match was good, but I would attribute it more to the ECW-fan-enhanced-stalling and Cena's presence than anything else.

RVD is a great talent. a magnificent athlete. But he was never able to really put it together like a Jericho.

Nah, he never kissed ass or played the political game like Jericho.

Plus RVD never wanted all of the shyt that most wanted, he just went out there to entertain the fans, he is not selfish about titles and main events.

He was like that his whole career.
