I don’t know. What he does in his private time is his business, not CNNs. I mean he recused himself from talking about the case on air.:yeshrug:

What’s wrong with using his network to help his bother?

This is the same type of pitch fork mob mentality that got Al Franken, a great Senator, out the paint.

Damn thanks for the details OP. He’s gone, they just have to work out the exit agreement which they couldn’t do if they outright fired him.

He used his position as a “journalist” with CNN to collect information about the accusers then gave that info to his brother. Massive conflict of interest violation especially for someone in the media. His career might be over with any legit news outlet.

This is similar to Donna Brazile giving debate questions to Clinton, big no-no.

I don’t have a huge issue with what he did. Honestly CNN wanted him out from the very beginning because of optics. It only looks bad now because his brother ended up being guilty in the court of public opinion. I can see if he used CNN resources or was acting on behalf of CNN to help his brother out but if not, then there’s nothing improper about him doing whatever he wants to do on his own time. With this logic, any person that’s in power can’t help their friends and family that are in trouble and we know that definitely happens behind the scenes.

He was using his position as a journalist to get information out of his accusers and give that to his brother the government. When the media starts doing the government's bidding, this blatantly, then that smoke you see, you can actually smell now.

He was using his knowledge and professional contacts to aid a family member. It’s not like he was using CNNs resources. I mean this is not as black and white as you put it.

Anyway, I don’t look at people like Cuomo or Don Lemon as journalists anyway. They are nothing more than glorified talking heads. They give opinions. They don’t do objective reporting. But that’s another issue altogether.

Umm.....everything?

:ld:

He used sources gathered as a journalist to directly influence the outcome of a scandal that has potential criminal implications involving the sitting governor of New York. I don't understand how some of y'all are finding even a little bit of wiggle room for his actions here. Contracts and legalese aside, on the surface alone he deserves to be fired on the spot and never work another day in the industry.

CNN is a trash joke of a network anyway, but he's done incalculable damage to their credibility in the eyes of the public now. The optics of this are very bad.

Fair enough. This is not my hill to die on.

Sooner than later Cuomo is going to be taught in journalism classes. The next generation of students will be taught to not do what he did in this situation

:gucci:

This is the disparity in expectations and reactions that pisses me off. Sean Hannity and Chris Cuomo have the same fukking job. Chris Cuomo gets fired for helping his brother during his off hours, but Sean Hannity can spread propaganda, campaign and act as a unofficial advisor to the president for four years....and no one bats an eye. No one is saying Hannity's massive "conflict of interests" will be used to to teach the next generation of journalist students.

Where was this pressure in the media when Hannity was doing all this bullshyt for four years? And I don't give two shyts about either Cuomo brothers. I don't even watch the three cable news nor do I care about the former governor of NY.
