Bob Mcdonnel is a good choice but he's been pretty inept at times with his decisions.

He sees the lane for a new moderate Republican who isn't a religious social conservative. I'll give him an honest look in 2016. I liked the way he used the RNC as a personal platform and an early 2016 stump speech. He reminds me of a more gully Charlie Crist.

Yeah, I seriously doubt I'd vote for dude, but I will say that I do think that it would be progress if we had a Republican President that doesn't pander to jesus freaks and racists. It could shift the electoral map and common left-right political wisdom a bit, which could be a positive trend.

If he runs in 2016, I can't see him not conforming to the growing religious/social conservative part of the party.

Bob Mcdonnel is a good choice but he's been pretty inept at times with his decisions.

Wasn't he the one that called for the mandatory ultra sounds for women contemplating abortions and later leaned back because of public backlash?

The issue for the Republicans is they can't win a presidential election with a neo-con nut. They haven't even been able to get one to win the primary in the last two elections. Christie has a personality at least. The republicans will have to decide if they wan't to slowly start to distance themselves from the religious bs and start attracting latino and other minority voters that will be making a bigger % of the population in the years to come. The only republicans that have caught onto this is the Bush's(Jeb/George P) of all people. Christie also lives in an area that is diverse enough to where he could easily mold his message to a new crowd.

If Hilary doesn't run in 2016, the field is wide open.

This was the big one but there was also omitting slavery from Confederate History Month or something. I don't remember since I left the state around the time he was elected.

IMO if there was ever a time for a legit 3rd party to rise, now would be it.

doesn't matter if it's religion or not show respect to your fellow men. If someone believes in something let it slide.

You i believe seem to think nothing is wrong with another smoking another dude's pole. I have a vastly diff opinion on that but i ain't out here calling dudes names... (right now)

Nobody called you a name. You responded to me, speaking about "the word" from a position that presupposes your religious beliefs to be true. I casually told you I think it's bullshyt, then clarified my statement about jesus freaks because you asked. Then you got all hurt and sensitive. It's not a big deal.

Growing influence. Forgot the 2nd word in there.

No, their influence is clearly declining. The influence of the evangelical right on the Republican party is clearly waning. The religious right merged with the Republican party around the late 70's. The 2004 election was really their last hurrah. Their influence over the Republican party has been waning ever since.

Uncertain grounds
I wanted Christie to run this year. We're due for a fat prez.

He is in the mold of the future GOP, assuming they plan on modernizing.

shyt, he'd legalize sports betting...thats got my vote by itself

People sayin the base dont like no slick talkin yankees, but I reckon that the base doesnt have much of a choice. At the end of the day, the base will never vote for hillary so they arent the ones that matter, as long as they are reasonably moved to the polls..GOP is looking to grow by claiming independents, moderates and conservative libs, and a slick talking, moderate/conservative from blue new england is exactly what they need. Mitt's just the warmup.
