Here's the thing with Tim Duncan vs. Shaq...Timmy D was never as ball dominant as Shaq, in terms of WANTING to just score and dominate all the time. He was more concerned with winning and was only putting up huge scoring games if he had to. Shaq would just do it to do it.
But on the other hand, I think the one thing about Shaq that has always been underrated is his passing ability--dude had crazy vision out of the post.
Overall, I think what separates them is that Tim Duncan was pretty much the best defender straight up and off the ball in the league for most of his career. Tim Duncan, I don't think, ever got truly recognized for how good of a defender he is--as someone who has played center before, it's hard as hell to keep your own man off the blocks, while also telling everyone else where they should be on the floor, and rotating to prevent penetration and neutralize pick and rolls, and Tim Duncan has been the best in the league at that for as long as he's been in the league (and low-key, Rasho fukkin Nesterovic was good at that too, it was about all he was ever good for).
Overall, I'm starting to feel like Tim Duncan may be the greatest player of his generation...
*ducks*
