Chiwetel Ejiofor's Role In DOCTOR STRANGE Finally Revealed

Deadline has revealed that Chiwetel Ejiofor is set to play Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange. The villain first appeared in Strange Tales in 1963, and is an accomplished user of magic who was trained by the Ancient One. He's a long time foe of Dr. Strange who sided with Dormammu. However, the site adds that while the 12 Years A Slave star is playing Mordo, he may not be a full baddie. Instead, he's going to be "an amalgamation of characters culled from Doctor Strange‘s mythology."

Written by Jon Spaihts and directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange follows the story of the brilliant and arrogant neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who learns after a horrific car accident that his hands don’t hold the key to his powers. Instead, he discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions. The movie is currently set to be released on November 4th, 2016.

Chiwetel will be great because being great is what he does... but I actually don't like it either, just like I don't like the Idris casting for Hemidall. It just comes across like putting premier black leading actors in supporting/secondary ass roles just to entice the demographic to watch a movie that otherwise wouldn't have had any black people in it.

Chiwetel would've been an ideal Mr. Terrific (check the avi) just like Idris would've been the ideal John Stewart... or any other black character in either DC/Marvel that wouldn't need to be secondary.

The problem is, how long are these guys supposed to sit around and wait for Marvel and DC to finally start making those movies? Mr Terrific ain't going to happen soon, Black Lightning ain't going to happen soon Blue Marvel ain't going to happen soon, Brother Voodoo ain't going to happen soon (unless this Baron Mordo rumor is a swerve and that's who he'll be playing) and they're all already way too old for Firestorm, Patriot or Static Shock, and within a few years would all be too old to play any of those other characters too.

Yeah, I was watching a YouTube video of this girl discussing a toy set based on the movie. Brother Voodoo was in the set Baron Mordo was not.

Oh I'm aware of the problem. It just makes it worse that they want black folks to appear on film but don't want to use the black superheroes readily available. Mr. Terrific and Brother Voodoo aren't difficult character concepts to have happen soon (as opposed to, perhaps, Blue Marvel), so its more so editorial just not wanting to go that route in any capacity. So it's undercutting the actors on one hand and then giving em 'whatever's left available' on the other hand.

The one bright spot is that Disney does seem to have full support behind Black Panther.
