The only impact will be negative. It'll be hard for sombody with a real vision or story based on chicago to distance themselves from this bullshyt

I wanted to give spike the benefit of doubt and even defended the movie early on, but watching it now....

This movie is bad. The most powerful scene is the funeral but that happens so early on all of the stupidness that takes place after makes you forget it. And it's message of the poor economy for urban youth and easy gun laws being a root cause aren't addressed further.

I was ready to appreciate that scene and Cusacks performance because I always thought he was a dope actor.
But the longer it went on, the more I resented it. So this place is in pure chaos and the ONLY respectable male character is a fukking white preacher? Really?

my only problem with it was it being called chiraq could've been literally named anything else. But i guess you got to get a buzz somehow

The first half was solid to me because it stuck to what was going on in the neighborhood with the women, the gangs, the church, etc... once it got to the general/armory scene it lost me. The last 2 scenes specifically before that were damn near perfect preacher talking about guns and city politics followed by the scene with Chi-Raq and the cat in the wheelchair telling him how he has to get through the day with his disabilities from being shot as well as his son being in a wheelchair... After that it's like he tried to force the play storyline into the movie and it doesn't work all that well. There are still a few good scenes after that mostly with John Cusack and Nick Cannon's characters tho...

Spike needs to cut down on trying to cover all these ideas and topics in one film.. that to me is one of the biggest flaws in his films even in good ones like Jungle Fever where he throws in the drug addict plot line. When he keeps the message at a minimal, balanced or focused in one direction his movies are flawless.
