I can imagine. The kids aren't there intellectually so they are probably like wtf does some greek story has to do with Chicago, but he's had more hits than misses. But you can get a local dude to get that true to life depiction. He wants to put his spin on it.

Never even set foot there so I can only hope that this "connection" works. I don't know what to expect, so I'm like fukk it, I'll go just to see the all-black cast... and John Cusack as Local Black Preacher in White Skin.

I wonder if he lives there in the movie

Name the "creative" Spike Lee films that were good the last 15 years? He nailed it with Bamboozled. So that gives me hope. However, when Spike deals with things in a more simplistic nature....he's better

now with that said. I'm hoping Spike does his thing and leaves everyone after seeing it.

I don't know that I am interested in seeing this topic shown in that context.....seems borderline poor taste, but I will check for the movie, and make a decision as we get closer to the release....

A lot of a Chicago people feel like...if you're going to tell this story tell it with the authenticity/veracity you would if it was about New York. Not go full satire mode..

I don't think that's the crowd he's making the movie for though. Let's be honest, if he made a true life visceral depiction of the real-life violence in Chicago the shyt would be downright depressing and most people would be like 'Nah, I'm good'. He's doing it in this tone and style because it reaches a wider audience and probably will have people thinking about it more instead of just feeling sad about this being a reality.

It's kinda like how he wrote Jungle Fever to comment on the crack epidemic in the black community, but hid it in a plot about interracial relationships so people would actually go see the movie since most of them wouldn't bother to fukk with a movie focusing completely on the subject of the crack epidemic.

Yeah if you made this some gritty/realistic movie so close to the actual events, no one would see it.
