- High youth unemployment
- An economy still recovering from Zero Cov-Id
-the CCP's tightening grip on the private sector
- Declining FDI because of authoritarian practices.
- Huge strategic long-term problems because of US led deprivation of advanced semi-conductor chips
Etc.

China is not the threat it was in the early to mid 2000's.

And yet anti-China sentiment is one of the few bipartisan consensus topics in DC.

Russia has repeatedly shown that it is a bigger antagonist outside of its own borders, like in real life, not in abstract debates like with China.

how the fukk can their population be on the rocks? :mindblown: they have a billion fukking people, and half of that is poor farmers

Declining population because of the One and Two Child policies.

The problem with mandating that people have less children, is that a lot of people realize that having less or no children makes life easier and much less expensive.

What makes you say this? How does a cold war benefit China?

Actually very similar reasons for why it would benefit the US gov't. It becomes an issue that "unites" the country and helps keeps a lid over what's otherwise a boiling, brewing internal situation. Think about how crazy the next 10 years will be with everything already in the pipeline (white nationalism, AI, trumpanzees, urban issues, inequality, uncertainty, right wing gaining power in europe, climate, inflation, homelessness, degrading political systems) AND potentially unforeseen disasters (another pandemic, economic collapse, wars). It's going to become one of the few truly "bipartisan/consensus" issues (like military budgets) that all politicians will be handcuffed to support. The Chinese gov't has a ton of internal issues as well (dissent, economic/political inequality, demographic) and would be more than happy to demagogue that the US is out to hurt/stop China's growth and advancement. Time honored political stunt.

Neither nation needs a Cold War And if we start one, the planet will suffer because of it. The only people salivating over it is the MIC crowd.

You’re not wrong except they rely on the west to maintain their supply chain & they lack natural resources and as we saw in the last Cold War the lack of access to resources makes you vulnerable to proxy wars.

In my opinion China as always would prefer to be left the fukk alone to be tyrants of its own people.
