The difficulty level the Talibans were playing against the U.S forces was set on EASY.

America could've wipe the taliban and afghanistan if they wanted to but couldn't cos it wasn't an all out state vs state war.
The point is that the precedent set by Vietnam stays in effect. All the bombs tanks guns helicopters and jets don't mean much when you're fighting in territory youre not familiar with against an adversary that uses guerilla tactics.

The US keeps taking Ls not due to a lack of technology, but a lack of a full understanding around countering insurgencies and guerilla tactics. Conventional warfare is dead. You win wars by preventing them from ever happening these days. Crush your adversary by destroying their sense of national identity, sabotage their economic system, scramble their ability to communicate and the rest will fall in place. America been doing that in Latin America for a minute and now it's being done to us but most people too dumb to see it.
