Funding for public schools is paid by local taxes (richer the neighborhood better the school, poorer the neighborhood poorer the school) outside of that the rest of the funding or the majority comes from government funds to help the "impoverished", special needs, failing or "behaviorally" challenged kids this money includes salaries and bonuses for principals, administration and "specialist". The economical situation in these neighborhoods obviously isn't going to change any time soon so these people want to get paid somehow :yeshrug:

Haven’t read the article yet but I will later on. I will say as an educator, I’ve never seen anyone removed for kids having too much success.

I once worked at a school that was the highest performing school in southern Fulton County..all black school with a 99% black staff, 100% black admin & probably 93% black kids. The principal we had turned the school around & was beloved, but he was fired because he was doing inappropriate things with his district provided phone & got caught.

He's not that person at all. He follows up with his students and makes sure they're staying on track even through college. He also is a great husband and father. Glad this thread is stickied.

Was fired back in May

"CPS removed Lindblom Math & Science Academy principal Abdul Muhammad from his position in March, citing “an investigation that substantiated findings” against him. But weeks later, exact details of why he was removed remain unclear."

:francis: honestly it sounds like he went in trying to clean things up and they got rid of him, schools are funny like that
Did the school board vote on this decision?

According to an Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) report, local property tax contributions to public school funding are 50% of the total.
Property tax provides about 53% of all school revenues. The property tax is the largest single source of revenue for Illinois public schools. This tax consists of the real estate tax, which is a tax on the real property of homeowners and businesses.

More than half of your property taxes go towards funding local schools in Illinois (Cook County). Depending on some townships and municipalities, it could be even more than that.
