I think it's shortsighted. In their mind, keeping all the talented kids from an area in that area will eventually produce quality citizens that eventually give back to that school and community.

Why I said classism is going to rear it's head is because a lot of high-middle class and middle class black people are going to be pissed about this. They don't want to send their kids to the schools within their area.
This was the case for me growing up

I went to PS 235 on Lenox for 4th and 5th grade because at the time, the schools in FG/CH were not good,

Same for JHS because the schools in my area were not good so I went to IS 383 for 6th to 8th grade, which was a magnet/gifted and talented school as well.

I keep telling y'all you don't have to vote Republican but there's a MASSIVE disconnect between the Dems and the middle class, the Black middle class, and Black people in general and y'all ain't listening because Trump and his idiots have provided a shiny distraction.

you can pour all the money in the world into shytty schools, but it starts at home. Unless the mentality changes there, it don't matter.
Schools can't control home. There's truth to your comment, but that's also a common excuse poor districts and schools use when they fail children

Districts/Schools can't fail kids when you hold them accountable by showing that you give a shyt as the parent.

Starts at parenting...ALWAYS.

Don't care for the excuses.

So what are schools that have close to 0 parent engagement/involvement supposed to do? Give up?

don't disagree.

but you also want to have your children about like minded individuals as well...and it can be those who look like you.

wish I knew the answer fam...

Well, I take that back cause I will say this. You have a higher chance of "saving" kids are at lower performing schools if you send them to schools where there are kids who are higher performers. They see a different more positive environment and it can help change their focus/mentality. But even then it has to be reinforced at the crib.

Many of our people didn't grow up in the best socioeconomic environments and became incredible achievers. And in many of those cases, even if they didn't have, the importance of education was stressed/practiced/reinforced by their parents. Thats where I say it always starts at the crib. And our culture has to do better as well, but that's another topic.
