Above the fray.
I admire the fearlessness of the women. Deliberately putting themselves in harm's way to try to stop violence in their community. Older Black women used to have a bit of immunity in the hood, even among killers. I've seen mothers say and do things to feared guys(not their sons) that would get anybody else hit.

Those days are long gone.

RIP, but to be honest after dark if you're on a corner with other people you're in danger. I get that that's your mission etc and maybe it's something they were willing to die for, but this is terrible decisionmaking for someone who has children that need them. I understand the protest when its daytime - kids should be able to be outside and not have to worry about the block being shot up. And parents/adults should be willing to make that point out in the open. But at 10pm? There are no rules at night, and little kids shouldn't be out there anyways. Mfers get shot in Lincoln Park or downtown at night. Ask anyone from Chicago why so many ppl get shot and inevitably you'll hear some variation of "either they were involved in something OR they were with or around someone that was." Unfortunately that's all it takes nowadays to get shot. Fukk'd up

I would love to see the women photos being held up on the national stage.. they definitely heroes

Imagine if they were LGBTQ killed in the line of fire? We would never hear the end of that.
You are right.

Years ago, a demon killed a Black girl near Penn Station in Newark. Only people who cared were other Black people and residents of the city. In an effort to draw more attention to the story and get state, federal resources to solve murders and prevent murders in Newark......councilman Cory Booker began mentioning that the deceased was a lesbian.
PRESS coverage increased, which put law enforcement under scrutiny to kind the killer.

RIP to Sakia Gunn

I be telling people that the hood aint worth saving man. I been a over 20 protest against violence in the city and like 5 hours after the protest someone is killed.

People don't care, your best bet is to strap up, move or just avoid the drama in whole.

For real...

Gotta disagree with all of this.... you should be able to congregate anywhere in your community at any time.... it’s not like they were up to no good.... this is a good example of how a lot of black men have failed the black community

I really don’t understand why this is such a hard concept for people to get.

I didn’t say that it was right.

I’m saying that if you value your safety or your life and exercised wisdom in doing so, there are certain things you will not do in those communities considering their current state.

Standing on a corner in the middle of the night in Englewood is one of those things.

If you are about activism in the community, do your activism during the daytime. Because with the current state of the community, doing anything at night, regardless of your intent, will get you killed.

That’s using wisdom.

These women’s deaths were senseless, because they didn’t need to be out there.

And to think that they thought that their presence would mean anything to a person who would look them in the eye and shoot them just for breathing seems a bit egocentric.

this gone sound real :mjpls:

But they should’ve kept the projects up. Maybe just renovate em like they did in NYC and other major cities.

All these project refugees flooded strong working class black neighborhoods(South Shore, Roseland, Pullman, South Chicago, Englewood). Destroyed them overnight.

We got section 8 in the once quiet, beautiful south suburbs tearing up the school districts and making neighborhoods look like shyt:pacspit:

refugees?

What if civil right leaders and activists of yesteryear took this stance? You’re not talking about wisdom, you’re describing debilitating fear.... Using this train of thought, freedom fighters of years past shouldn’t have challenged the powers that be due to the fact that it more than likely would mean harm or death to their person..... but the small few that rejected this way of thinking affected major change and increased the quality of life of their fellow brothers/sisters immensely.... there is always risk when you’re trying to force change or revolution

I remember that. Totally senseless man. This was the main reason I bought a car. I would be downtown Newark at night waiting on the bus, trying to watch out for nikkas on some other shyt .

You have a point but do not in any way think that this is an equal comparison.

The violence is caused by Chicago city government’s disinvestment in employment, housing, education, and business in these communities. Therefore, they need to take their activism down to city hall. Medication to address the symptoms does nothing to eradicate the disease.

Indeed, that's the main motivation people have to say "GOODBYE to NJTRANSIT"

you have to read the article and hear Sharpe James' explanation for why that mini police booth on Broad & Market was unmanned at the time. unmanned , and no camera recording.

Family of the victim asks "what if this happened to Mayor James' child?"

Older people from Newark remember that James' son WAS shot and almost killed when somebody tried to rob him for his shearling or sheepskin coat back in the day....WHILE James was either mayor or councilman

MFers in Newark have been on some other shyt since forever.
