Been there and that Area is cool. And it's black folks that's not on bullshyt. But that bar sucks cuz it's overpriced, food is mediocre, and the drinks ain't nothin special. If going to a bar in Hyde park, I prefer Woodlawn tap on 55th n Woodlawn. They got good food and good drinks. Also more reasonably prices than bar Louie.

threadstarter can also try wicker park. over where damen, milwaukee, and north avenue meet. u can walk up and down milwaukee and hit a gang of bars. there will definitely be more black folks in that area than in wrigleyville. but be prepared for a lot of white people as well. I have hit the bars over there a few times over there cuz my sister used to stay on damen and armitage.

Check out the events schedule for Reggie's Records and the Shrine. They often have neo-soul, african, reggae nights during the week where the clientele is predominantly black. The Shrine turns ratchet on the weekends/late nights though. Both are in the South Loop/Central Station neighborhood round Cullerton and Wabash so not too far from downtown. If it's a nice night, you could walk and be not bothered at all You can also catch any 3/4/129? or express version bus off michigan and get there in like 5 minutes.
