I heard about a Chernobyl show from a friend and was automatically IN. Very fascinated by what went on there. The British accents caught me off guard like the first time I saw Valkyrie :dead: Got past it and it was pretty good. A lot of head scratching and just plain :what: decisions and requests being made during the incident.

Y'all dont know about communism, security, living in fear of the "party" etc. I was young but I know how it was.
What many people who are uneducated on the topic will question is why were they so in denial about the nuclear reactor exploding and will just blame this as "Russians being stupid and arrogant".

BUT understand this:
prior to this incident the thought of a nuclear reactor even being capable of exploding, was deemed almost impossible by top world scientists of the time. Nobody saw this coming. Even when it was reported worldwide the U.S. nuclear engineers didnt want to believe it really did explode and assumed the russians were mistaken and hiding something else. The russians werent delusional in that aspect. The lies and coverup following the event is what really fukked them.

Bout to start watchin this now..... Why are they speaking English in this show?....:patrice:
Yeah they should have made it in Russian and just have english subtitles. Would have made it so much more authentic kinda like Narcos.

But then again most of these actors you see on the show are British and American and having to have them learn russian would be damn near impossible

They knew they were dead men walking. All they could do is do their best to reduce the impact to keep the shyt from killing millions. In a way that is where their communist mindset helped them. The mindset of "i am part of a collective and everything must be done for the good of the people". Not all of them buy into the midset but you could tell the two that went down to open the valves knew they wouldnt survive it but felt obligated to at least TRY to cool down the reactor and keep the shyt from gettng much worse than it already was.

I came in here to say that. We gotta :hubie: on the shyt talking brehs and understand the scope of the situation here. It's 1986. This event changed the landscape of engineering. So the things you take for granted now were done in part because of the fukk ups made back then.

With that said even if you look at the firefighter gear you should give quick pause. Firefighters have a nickname of smoke eaters. If you talk to old school fire fighters it was a privilege to run into burning buildings without all the SCBA shyt you see nowadays.

I mean, if you want to get REALLY real, a lot of first responders caught cancer after 9/11 because they attempted to clean and rescue ground zero without adequate protection. Those men and women have died since and others are fighting to get their healthcare expenses covered TODAY.

So folks need to chill out.

With that said there were people in the city that were :patrice: from the get. Eleven minutes in a nurse asks about the hospitals stock of iodine:
Iodine Pills May Have Saved People After Chernobyl — Are They Useful Today?
