I'm kinda split on this issue. I see both sides. But respectfully, if they are not married, why would she asked where his money is going?

At the same time. It is kinda tacky to ask rent from your girl. I personally wouldn't even have offered. Either shelter her for free or not at all. No half stepping.

I can see asking for money if they’ve been in conversations about shacking up to save money. From that perspective his proposal makes sense. It happens all the time. If they continue to grow as a couple then the arrangement can be modified. Her money can start to go towards things like a wedding fund or investments.

I say all that to say, it’s short sighted thinking to just be offended by the notion of rent. Personally, if it was me I’d propose it but say it’s no pressure and we can continue living separate because I wouldn’t want to make her feel like a tenant. Let her keep paying the $1800. :unimpressed:

doesn't make sense, if the house is paid for what am i paying rent for? what does he need my $800 for?

we could be saving HEAVY to purchase a second property to rent out
We could be saving heavy?

The money you make at work is your money and not his, you are only able to save off his hard work

If you break up with him in 2-3 years you gonna cut him a check?

She stays in a high rise. Those Condos can have HOA fees and it's very likely she does.
And the owner of the unit is responsible for that.

I rent in a high rise condo, I don't pay a separate fee for the condo association, the owner takes care of that. Some is likely baked into my rent, but it's not separate.

And the scenario says she stays in an apartment, so there wouldn't be a fee.

Ok but her rent by itself is still $2000. What about food, utilities, and parking?
