It might not have said streaming specifically, but all entertainment contracts have language in regards to “future technologies”.

I just watched dave's diatribe on this.

he signed a bad deal with comedy central for chappelle's show which is totally on him. and whomever can air his show as long as they pay viacom.

that said, the ONLY reason that netflix pulled his show is not cuz they are nice guys. they are too worried about pissing him off and NOT getting any more original stand up specials. so when dave talks about netflix being nice guys, it comes off as disingenuous. netflix simply knows where their bread is buttered.

You only deserve what you negotiate. Viacom nor anybody else owes him anything except what he agreed to when he signed his lucrative contract.

If you get a job at a startup and they offer you stock options in exchange for a reduced salary, and you say no. You can’t turn around when the stock explodes years later and talk about getting screwed because everybody that took the stock options is cashing out.

And I'm not sure how early syndication payout negotiations begin. Seinfeld was damn near canceled in the first season, I doubt he had the leverage to get an amazing deal that early.

It wasn't until Seinfeld became a loved show that Seinfeld and Larry David could demand a ridiculous amount for syndication.

I won't lie, I'm kind of bummed about this because I had been watching a lot of it on Netflix. It was good to remanence and laugh. I get it though. It didn't seem like he was too happy about it during the opening monologue on SNL a few weeks ago which is understandable. Netflix lost Parks & Rec and is about to lose The Office, but they're gaining Seinfeld and I guess they thought they could snag Chapelle's Show too, but not so fast.
