What label would allow an artist to release free albums? He makes all his money off tours and merch so in order for the label to profit they'd need to take most if not all of those earnings and then some. All of the artists on his projects do their features for free. If they knew he was secretly signed to a label wouldn't they demand compensation?

Drake blew up off So Far Gone which was a free album. He could have went the indie route but for artists like him a major label works. If you're a superstar you're better off with a major.
