But my thing is, who cares?

i haven't seen chance run around calling his movement grassroots

the same way we say mixtapes are "basically albums" yet we STILL call them mixtapes even though they have album type of time/resources invested into them

chance isn't signed to major, therefore he's "basically independent" even though he has the resources that a major artist would
I'm Chance is a good dude, but, I don't like the big wig controlling even the underground.

It undermines the hard work of ppl who are REALLY trying to overstep the major route.

Somebody like Curren$y; grinds that indy route A LONG TIME, but, eventually messed with a major. It messed up majors are infertrating only places indy guys can go.

I feel the same about these podcasts now getting all boogee and get advertisers and major labels involved.

The people got to have something.

i don't think that's what i said... matter of fact i don't think anyone in this board said they never heard of him

what i said was, why isn't he HEADLINING A TOUR?

follow the context... dude is up for grammys.. dude is getting the cover of GQ... that's crossing over in astronomical amounts

yet dudes with legit #1's... multiple number 1's.. who have headlined tours.. have never once got the cover nor a grammy nod

shyt nas has never graced the cover.. snoop never has.. outkast (dre) never got one... biggie and pac never even got a cover.. jeezy

ok maybe they just started and they not young.... lets name rappers with legit #1 albums who was under 25.... wale... never... meek.. never... asap... never

all of them headlined... most of them were up for grammy's if not all... shyt some of them won

but you want me to believe chance is so popular that he gets a cover and his music is that great that he getting a grammy nod :comeon:

even tho the metrics will tell you that's far from the truth and he can't buy a hit :comeon:

i never called him shytty... i never said he not supposed to use his connections... i never said he has NO fans

what i said was, it's a slap in the face to see someone clearly getting ahead of others based on business and not actual results

I wrote that after literally reading this which is on this page

I truly have no clue who this guy is. :mjlol:

As far as the other stuff goes Jay, Drake, Future and Kendrick have all been on the cover of GQ specifically. Kendrick has been on the cover with the same title that chance has now.

I don't know what metrics you're going by but this has been Chance's year. He's been making music for a long time and finally hit the crosswave of making good music and having a significant enough following that 2016 was the year that it snowballed.

Not too sure who it would be a slap in the face to if he seemed to follow the same path as most rappers. Grinding and putting out music and building a fanbase until, like I said, it snowballed into a bigger thing. But yes, I would have you believe that he is that popular because he is that popular. His fanbase is significant. It grew even more after his SNL appearances and other performances.

And if the hit metric you're using is Billboard then I can tell you that hit doesn't mean the same to us and Billboard. One Dance was Drake's first no. 1 and that fool is a hit machine. There are some hit songs that don't make it as high as you would think.

I didn't very much enjoy Coloring Book but a lot of people did. I believe the Grammys are bullshyt, personally but a lot of people enjoyed that mixtape. And he started the hype train for it early.

i agree. look at acid rap (:scusthov:) or to use a project that isnt a complete piece of shyt, that Ross - rich forever. 15-20 tracks of all original beats :heh: nothing about that says 'mixtape' to me
Yeah growing up I always thought a tape was when you hopped on other rappers beats or you just had quick two verse tracks and shyt or as we all know an actual mixtape a cd full of random songs that may flow together lol

What label would allow an artist to release free albums? He makes all his money off tours and merch so in order for the label to profit they'd need to take most if not all of those earnings and then some. All of the artists on his projects do their features for free. If they knew he was secretly signed to a label wouldn't they demand compensation?

The point is "branding" not making money off songs etc, that's the promotional vehicle. They'll have a piece of and a huge hand in whatever other "media" he decides to "produce". Films, TV, etc.

Did this thread get this far with no one mentioning him showing out on SNL with the debut of "Ultralight Beam"...or the fact that he had such a stand-out performance on the introductory track of an album that A LOT of people heard...or that the Kanye connection might have an effect?

....especially with a mag like GQ.

how the hell they let someone that walks around dressed like a Super Mario brother get a GQ cover ?

:picard::hhh:

Who cares if he's a plant....A lot of ya'll nikkas whining listen to trash rappers like Uzi Vert, 21 Savage and, Yatchy....Listen to nonsensicle rap that champions Black genocide but, those rappers ain't plants tho?

Chance and Yachty are in the exact same lane. cheesy, positive, uplifting music.

Been saying he was an obvious plant for years. The thing that gets me is how these media hacks try to play the public for fools like he did this straight with no mainstream help. Now they are trying to overpush him like he's the hottest thing out when in reality he's no bigger then a big Sean or Wale

When Chance snatches a Grammy this year... :banderas:

Coli going to be FURIOUS
:blessed:
im not really mad about Chance specifically, its about the next guy after him. the barriers of entry are low. The next guy is going to be some justin bieber person that has absolutely no knowledge of the culture and just raps. ghost writing, blantly stealing other people's songs, reading off "freestyles" off your phone on radio and being fake indie is already acceptable. this is what happens when companies decide who blows and the fans dont

I went to The Magnificent Coloring Day Show at US Cellular. The people have spoken... No matter what the typical washed up Coli poster thinks.

nikkas on here still making threads about 50 Cent and Eminem. The Booth is probably one of the most out of touch hip-hop forums there is in 2017.

Chance benefiting off of his pops connections isn't a bad thing. It's what white people been doing for generations. Why the fukk does he need to fake shyt or sign a deal when he has family that's plugged like they are? nikkas have to get out of this crab in a barrel mentality. That's all this thread is about honestly.
