"And while there is a romantic comedy element to “Bob [Hearts] Abishola” it’s not the primary reason the show exists, per Lorre, who said he’s more interested in telling an immigrant’s story. That makes “Bob [Hearts] Abishola” one of several series this year to take that path alongside Amazon Prime Video’s allegory fantasy drama “Carnival Row” and the upcoming NBC comedy “Sunnyside” (9:30 p.m. Sept. 26), about a group of immigrants studying for their American citizenship exam.

Lorre and executive producer Al Higgins tapped writer Gina Yashere, whose parents were Nigerian immigrants to England, to join them in the writers room to help ground the story in accurate representation.

“A lot of the stories that you see in the show are basically incidents from my life and a lot of other immigrant lives,” Yashere said. “It's not about anybody Nigerian. It's about anybody coming from anywhere — you could be Indian, Pakistani, German — it's just you're going somewhere else and starting a new life.”

Lorre calls “Bob [Hearts] Abishola” a love story “for all of us” as children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of immigrants.

“There's no reason to view it as politics,” Lorre said. “It's about people trying to get some safety in this world.”"

Negativity (Kayfabe)
WOW.

While Abishola's instincts tell her to remain cautious of Bob's interest, her girlfriends at the hospital are as tickled about the courtship as her aunt and uncle. In one eye-opening lunchtime scene, they discuss the ethnic hierarchy of who Abishola would choose to marry. As her spunky busybody friend Kemi (Gina Yashere) explains, "Top of the list, Nigerian man — same tribe (Yoruba). Then, Nigerian man — different tribe (Igbo). Then, other Africans (except Tunisians and Egyptians). Obviously. Then Caribbean. Then white. Then African American."

Here's what they really think about you.

I'm surprised Zaddy was so low on the list :mjlol:

Shameful. Whole show looks like propaganda. Who is it even for? They got a fat old white pig, so even wenches won't tune in cuz it makes them look bad too...he's not even rich lol

shyt like this hurt my head. White people always make and create some disrespectful ass shyt with us on their minds is one thing....then on the other side there's no shortage of black folks willing to act out the disrespectful lines on some, "well if I don't get that money then someone else will. So it Midas well be me".
My thoughts exactly.

I heard and seen this be said plenty of times by african women.
Except that it's slightly different.

The hierachy when it comes to African women dating:
Their own tribe/ethnic group men (e.g. Kikuyu woman going after Kikuyu man) >>> Their Nationality of men (e.g. Senegalese woman going after Senegalese man) >>> Other (Sub-Saharan) African men (e.g. Zimbabwean woman going after Ghanaian man) >>> White guys >>> NWB men.
