They actually hired someone who can coach X's and O's and not a figurehead. Great hire

that statement is a bit ridiculous/insulting though

I agree. I would've chosen

or

This one was very telling from two years ago.

I like the guy, I've watched film on a couple of his teams & I'm sure a lot of us has seen his Russian National team during the Olympics. He's confident but not cocky and gets the best out of his players.

He gives everybody a chance to feel that he is very important and the result of the team depends on each player. That actually helps players to feel confident. There are 12 basketball players on a team and each of them needs an individual approach. That's just the only way a player can demonstrate 100 percent result because a coach is not just an organizer, he is a psychologist.

All in all, it just seems to be a great hire. I can't nor will I criticize someone who is skeptical of the hire because he's never done it in the NBA. Can he win anywhere? We'll soon find out. The great thing is he's won everywhere he's been a coach.

This is just a bonus: 3:30 mark

he made this thread thinking everyone would be clowning on Blatt

honestly, i havent even read through his posts here because the first post already made it clear he has absolutely no clue what he is talking about

You think Blatt can get the Cavs to 60 wins or a Final's appearence before its time to renegotiate his first contract?

The only thoughts I have on David Blatt are: what kinda name is Blatt? And he can't be worse than Mike Brown.
Other that those two I know nothing of the guy :manny:

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Many Cavaliers fans are just getting to know David Blatt, the former Maccabi Tel Aviv coach who agreed to terms with the Cavaliers on Friday, according to an NBA source.

But the 55-year-old Massachusetts native and graduate of Princeton is well-known in basketball circles -- and former Princeton coach Pete Carril said he always knew Blatt was destined to be a coach because of the way he saw the game.

Two years ago, on Aug. 4, 2012, highly regarded Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports and Fox Sports 1 tweeted, "Someday, someone in NBA will have the vision to hire Russian national and Euro coach David Blatt. He's simply one of the best on the planet.''

In the past four seasons with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Blatt's teams went 222-55, including a 70-13 record in 2011-12. This past season, his team won the Israeli Cup and the Israeli and Euroleague titles.

Though widely regarded as an offensive genius, John Schuhmann of NBA.com notes that in FIBA competition Blatt's Russia teams were better defensively than offensively and shared the ball at a high rate -- as one might expect of a coach who played for Carril. This is welcome news for fans who watched the beautiful offense of the San Antonio Spurs in The NBA Finals and also for the Cavs, who spent last year improving their defense.

Former players have been lining up to sing Blatt's praises, especially since his press conference in Israel a week ago announcing he was leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv for the NBA, even though he didn't know at that time exactly which NBA job he'd be taking. Golden State and Minnesota were interested in hiring him as an assistant.

Former Cav Jeremy Pargo played for Blatt in 2010-11, when Maccabi Tel Aviv went 50-7

"Blatt is a great coach,'' Pargo told Eurobasket. "His pace of the game is pretty much NBA pace and he coached guys that are familiar with the NBA style. He's really a smart guy.

"Blatt understands emotions of players, their different attitudes, and knows how to get it all into one. Those are ingredients one needs to be a successful coach in the NBA. NBA coaches deal with lots of different things such as, players who are pretty much the coach themselves or guys that don't agree with the coach, and you need to be able to work it all out and get wins in difficult situations -- and I think Blatt is pretty good at that."

After Blatt led Russia to a gold medal in the Eurobasket in 2007, Brooklyn's Andrei Kirilenko wrote of Blatt in a blog on the Russian website Sport Today, "I respect and value him for his ability to organize the players so the strongest qualities of each are used 100 percent. He is able to motivate a team using a positive approach even though he could be strict enough without using psychological pressure.

"He gives everybody a chance to feel that he is very important and the result of the team depends on each player. That actually helps players to feel confident. There are 12 basketball players on a team and each of them needs an individual approach. That's just the only way a player can demonstrate 100 percent result because a coach is not just an organizer, he is a psychologist."

Of course the ATL
Just like any hire, how he's viewed will depend on wins/losses. If Bron doesn't come back, CLE still has the #1 pick &'a talented but young roster. CLE fans, what are YOUR expectations for CLE this season?

To make the playoffs.

More than anything I want to get the most of everyone. I want to see our players develop and grow. To play their asses off for 48 minutes a night.
