I rarely check for hip-hop anymore. I can tell you the names of many of the new artists, but I don't know a single one of their songs or lyrics and honestly, I don't even care to find out.

There's a lot of blame to go around. Record companies and audiences have a mutually-reinforcing relationship that's ultimately harmful to the listener.

This, think the only rapper I still check for is Nas. Whatever I do listen to it's from back in the day. But I couldn't name you one popular song thats out today, makes me feel old

from time to time i turn on the actual radio vs my own shyt and that only last about 1-2 minutes. I swear it's literally like garbage coming over the airwaves.

There are only so many songs about "clubin" or having some dude talk about how swagged out he is because he can buy cars. :manny:

Who are some of these "great artists out right now?"

Lupe Fiasco
Blu
Pigeon John
Dela
Canibus
Jay Electronica
Ensilence
Five Deez
Mf Doom
The Roots
Moka Only

etc. I mean friend, if you're truley hiphop and appreciate hiphop music, you will look for it. But, if you arent, well i guess you'll have more critique with whats just in front of your eyes which is corporate sponsored demonic filth. You arent really hiphop.

i'm a little more eclectic than just hip hop but typically it's older stuff, mostly conscientious things.

Mos Def, Talib, (blackstar), Crown City Rockers, Little Brother, some Nas, some JZ, the Lox (we are the streets has a place in my heart), Dilated Peoples, Del The Funky Homosapien, Souls of Mischief, Fugees, Gangstar, Big Pun, Pac, Biggy, Jay Electronica, J5, Wu Tang Clan, Aesop Rock, Grimm, Non Prophets, J-Live, Madvillian (MF Doom & Madlib), Afura, Big L, Company Flow(most of El-P's groups/stuff), DMX (just his first 2 albums), Eminem (some of his stuff), Jedi Mind Tricks, Dan the Automator in his various ventures (deltron, Dr. Oc, etc), Heiro, THe ROots (forgot to add them:smile: )

You know, the essentials:smile:

I do listen to damn near everything but country. Spanish music, both contemporary and more traditional, some classic rock and some alternative/new stuff (i like blink 182 :manny:, same for Nickleback and acts like that.)

If feel soul in sound i'm all over it.

Mostly Pre 2008 things i'm finding....

You're filling your mind with too much demonic thoughts listening to those musical artists. I think you could stand to ween yourself off the demonic filth and allow more positive artists to be listened to more the the demonic ones, friend.
