up until MCU i thought captain marvel was a blue dude with white hair
he was one of them. his dad was th first, monica rambeau was the second he(genis) was the third and his sister(phyla) was the fourth

I'll hold out on judgement until the movie comes out. You guys are overusing the term Mary Sue. Captain Marvel has been powerful as hell and no one calls Hulk or Superman a Gary Sue or use their power as an excuse of why they are bad.

I think you are taking the term “Mary Sue” out of context..
And I’m not trying to condemn your view or voice..
Personally..
I don’t think anybody has a problem with strong, powerful women in movies..
Okay..
Let me rephrase that..
I don’t have a problem and 99% of men don’t have a problem with strong powerful female leads..
It will always be that 1% of nasty, outcasts who can’t stand it..
I think it’s just Brie..
I like her as an actress and she has a strong body of work in Indie films..
Haven’t seen Kong Island but I heard she was pretty good in that..
It’s the way she delivers the lines..
Quite possibly that’s the vision of Marvel and the Director..
She is more subdued in the beginning or while in street clothes..
And becomes more assertive and boisterous once she has her powers under control and for Binary Mode..
She’s just seems hella stiff in the trailers and it just feels like something is missing..
Granted, this is all hyperbole and hypotheticals from a lot of men and women(including me)
And it will for sure reach heights of WW, maybe even surpass it..
But this could be the first misstep in casting for Marvel..
I’ll reserve judgement until I see the film..
But just from the trailers..

I was using it out of context because people are saying she is a Mary Sue if that is true Superman and the Hulk are Gary Sues.
Reactions to the film are good Marvel has been making tons of films they aren't DC and even DC got Wonder Woman done well.

I get what you are saying..
I just think the term “Mary Sue” is more about the actress and not about the core character..
Brie..
For a lack of a better adjective..
Is a very plain white girl..
Now we can argue with how sexists that term is..
And that’s where I can see your argument with comparing her to Hulk and Supes..
Granted all the actors that have played both Hulk/Supes(outside of Christopher Reeves) have been very “Gary Sues”..
That have lacked that charisma..

Some nerds and comic purists do exhibit(and I hate this word)incel like behavior when it comes to things like this..
Outside of many of them being racists and bigots..
I’ve always hated that about the community and that’s one of the main reasons I stopped going to a lot of conventions..

I think many people will change their stance once the movie drops..
I mean she is the lead of the new phase to the MCU..

True but Superman has outrageous feats and Captain Marvel's purpose it to assemble the avengers against Thanos. They all play a role Captain Marvel doesn't just solo Thanos.
the press hasnt been doing a good job of acknowledging that especially with the strongest avenger ever nods with thor and the hulk on the same line up
