why do they gotta go all out with the costumes sometimes? he looks like a villain from The Running Man, he better be getting shot at point blank by falcon and iron man

alot of costume iconography overlaps in superhero comics, so they gotta plan distinctions ahead of time esp. for a fixed cinematic continuity with thousands of moving parts. The nature of the MCU doesn't lend itself to hard or soft reboots as much as say, James Bond, where it's one main character they have to get right and the others can afford liberties like Moneypenny, M, etc.

For example,

Characters like Frank Castle/Punisher, Crossbones, Ghost Rider, and Taskmaster all have iconography in common,

Characters like Dr. Doom, and Ronan the Accuser, have visual similarity/iconography in common

So in translation to cinema there needs to be trade offs. Otherwise you have moviegoers linking characters that have no affiliation, and that becomes a communication failure which is an L in Movies. Whereas in comicbook storytelling you can afford/ get away with that overlap cause we normally have tunnel vision and we have enough respect for the genre not to link characters based on colors or outfit similarities alone.

I think in the near future. they'll do that in the MCU with Mephisto/ Dormammu/ Surtur as well. They either give characters very stark distinctions (which they establish in the comics 2 years ahead of time with reboots), or they'll merge the two characters into one. I think that's why Ronan's character looked the way he looked in Guardians, cause in the event they get Fantastic four back, Doom gets priority on an all green outfit :hula:over ronan.

I dig the helmet but I don't like those gauntlets. Like you said it looks bulky and I can't imagine him being able to keep up with someone as fast as Steve, but maybe it'll look better on screen and in motion.

Three more images have surfaced in anticipation of Civil War, and they feature our first official look at Frank Grillo's Crossbones as well as Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch, and more

Following Martin Freeman’s character reveal, Empire has now provided what is technically our first official look at Frank Grillo’s return as Brock Rumlow, better known as Crossbones, in Captain America: Civil War. Furthermore, we have a sweet new look at Elizabeth Olsen using her powers as Wanda Maximoff aka the Scarlet Witch, plus an official version of the previously-seen Civil War still featuring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. facing off in gear.

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. With an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, with William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.
