He has never been shyt. I mean, my bad if I'm wrong but I think remember @CHICAGO talking about Mackie just being weak asf

He just AINT IT PERIOD. He is about as convincing as Kate Bishop and Captain Marvel (not all)

He went to Juilliard and uses that fact to defend himself against criticism.

He was ok in some of his earlier roles, when playing something close to his real character.

But he has shown that not only can he not act, but that is also oblivious to it.

Lemme get my Coli Breh on for a sec.

Did anyone notice traces of :mjpls: in the this flick, especially the front half

breh malcolm spellman is responsible for those early parts and a lot of the character building stuff.

  • Roughing up the suspect during the take down...
[*]Throwing the Innocent Black Man in Jail...
[*]"Son" - when I'm sure the script writers were prolly tempted to put in "Boy" (I kid...but...)
[*]Secret Service Sister constantly having "DEI" moments with Sam? (You know us folks gotta stick together) Shout out to Seth and Sydney in Severance.
[*]Joaquin being from Miami.....even though Joaquin isn't particularly Cuban.....
    [*]

[*]And taking it back to the series, I mean, aside from literal high schooler Peter Parker, we never seen the money problems of the other Super Heroes....
[*]And as y'all was saying above, there's a whole lot of "I'm not the real Captain" aspect to Sam's arc that started in The Falcon/Winter Soldier, that isn't completed. Even the little pep talk he got from Bucky didn't really get him. But basically we've had about 6 episodes and a whole movie of a Black Man doubting himself, BUT STILL supporting the "Republican" power structure
[*]And how come Black Panther fans ain't come out for Sam Wilson, certified ADOS/FBA breh from Louisiana? Where was the excitement? :pachaha:

Otherwise

  • Anthony Mackie
sort of down pedaled his "Mackie-ness" and was some what tolerable.
[*]Aguilar aka Latino Falcon - has zero chemistry, and his little "I always wanted to be you" speech at the end was not believable at all.
[*]They played Giancarlo. He had a few scenes of real menace in that mug.
[*]Gotta give it up to Harrison Ford, doing a lot of face acting in this. Not sure what type of Republican he was playing, but there were shades of not-Trump throughout it.
[*]The Mossad agent turned Widow - I don't understand her purpose or the amount of screen time. I mean, I get it plotwise, but this just seemed like a bad idea. And I wonder if having former Israeli spy being head of security for the president of the US was a bit too on the nose in light of recent events....
[*]Dunphy - I wanted them boys from Lioness to show up for real for real.
[*]The Leader - I guess they learned their lesson from MODOK and didn't lean into the comic book depiction. (Although I woulda had some Yakub jokes ready if they did)

Overall - It's not a bad movie. It's about middle of the pack for phase 5 (GOTG3 is easily #1 and Ant Man 3 is #5)

But this should have been a DL for me, but I gotta support.

Even got the pint glass

Nowhere near the realm of a bad Marvel movie. This is one of those films that if it were a Yakub that was put in the same exact role, it would be reviewed much better than it did. This film is the push and pull between creatives trying and a studio that doesn’t have the same enthusiasm for Black characters as they do for the Yakubs (Armor Wars pushed back indefinitely, Blade on Ice, no T’Challa, Monica Rambeau in the bushes, etc.). I would not be surprised if Thunderbolts and F4 are more acclaimed upon release ; you can see much more care they are putting into those IPs. Mackie spoke on how he wanted Falcon and Winter Soldier to be the film, but Marvel wanted a show, and how that frustrated him.

It’s a solid film that establishes Sam as Cap through his internal battle of whether he’s worthy of the Cap mantle. It also felt like a day in the life of Cap, and that worked in my opinion, especially with him being a counselor. This film didn’t need the cameos and extra flair that other Marvel films generally have, and the volume/CGI is mostly forgivable; the action is pretty decent too. This will probably be one of the MCU movies that will get its just due down the line.

A lot of Yakubs didn’t seem to resonate with any of the relationship between Sam and Isaiah. Even some of the language, like that speech about being enough at the end, split my theater into two with a collective MHM from everybody Black and dead silence from the Yakubs. They could have fleshed out Sam and Old Girl’s relationship more, but we know what we’re dealing with.

Just finished watching it

This was definitely a very flawed effort but no way in hell is this deserving of the worst MCU tag people were trying to put on. I’ve been in theaters for some movies that were so bad I had to walk out

That said they need to come way harder for Thunderbolts & F4 to lead into Avengers next year

Also agree with the brehs that’s there a better version of this film with Banner as the protagonist than Sam. This was an Incredible Hulk follow up more than anything else
I encourage everyone to go and decide for themselves. I'm on the other side of this but the stuff that bothers me bothered me in like all of the last 5-10 marvel movies that didn't star Spider-Man. Ugly CGI, disjointed storytelling for whatever reason (reshoots, delays, whatever), and just, no style. That's the thing ..at least stuff like thor love and thunder was trying shyt out, at least eternals was shot well....this is... nothing to me, but some like this flavor of film and that's cool. I'm not gonna "yuck their yum". Go see it

It's still better than Madame Web.

I went to see it first weekend on the stregnth of blackness but man, he is just absolutely not convincing in anything he does. The entire cast of BP1, down to extras watching the fight are more convincing. Kang was more convincing. BOTH roadeys were more convincing. Bokeem woodbine as a henchman was more convincing.

He has never been shyt. I mean, my bad if I'm wrong but I think remember @CHICAGO talking about Mackie just being weak asf

Convincing as Captain America by himself? No, convincing as Falcon who turned into Captain America, yes. Whenever you have a sidekick or partner take over the main role imo you can't compare it to the original main character as the sidekick took the mantle and you still view the sidekick as just that. Look at the robins turning into batman.

I give it 3/5 stars, want to see some of the things they cut like diamondback.
Rosa Salazar is sexy as hell to me, pissed they cut her from the movie. she's a "big" enough actress that i assume the part was reasonably hefty

I read she isn't written out of the universe.

scrap this character and toss her in the xmen somehow. she's good, and we don't need some forced return of the Serpent Society.

It was just ok to me. Not the worst from the MCU, far from the best, probably not something I’ll rewatch for a long time if ever

I feel like in this day and age whether it’s movies, TV, music or sports, people are in such a rush to label something as GOAT or WOAT, and sometimes shyt is just aight, and this was one of those movies to me. There’s nothing groundbreaking here but if you’ve got 2 hours to kill it keeps you entertained enough

But I also went in with very very low expectations due to all the reshoots and test screening drama, so maybe I could be grading it on a curve :manny:

mackie is not convincing as an actor.

not sure why that is hard for people to see.

while two brehs are acting, mackie is trying his best to show that he is acting.

they never got a fat dumpling to play robin in any of the movies.

and he got physically larger with more of a hero profile when he started to lead teams.

Ross was behind the Sokovia Accords, and when Sam went with Cap, he locked them up, then was on their asses for 2+ years after they escaped...as they were rogue vigilantes. That's the history they're speaking of.

That isn’t a real history.

Ross and Sam shared ZERO direct scenes :mjlol:

Sam was a damn sidekick during the first 3 phases and NOT a main player.

fukk outta here with this fake ass rivalry shyt :mjlol:

Excellent beer, have a few bottles myself.
It's like the only thing I drink now. Lol

I'm glad it's expensive and I gotta travel for it. Once a month could easily multiply. They had my favorite special edition, the cafe olla. But at $25, that might be once a quarter
