I can't and won't go as far as to say Canelo broke Golovkin, but everything else you said was true. I think in the first fight Golovkin was very nervous and finally got confident when Canelo got tired, but in the 2nd and 3rd fight he really didn't get confident and be the "regular", aggressive GGG until Canelo got tired. Second fight he made the mistake of trying to outbox him for too long and didn't make it close until the later rounds when he got aggressive.
The bottom line is neither fighter ever gained a definitive advantage over the other, and both of them respected each other too much to take the other out. Someone else in the thread said it best, last night was a slap boxing contest where neither one wanted it to turn into a real fight, our of fear for the other.
Yeah I agree. I feel for Golovkin...he derailed his entire career chasing Canelo Alvarez once he moved up to 160 and won that title off Miguel Cotto. He was played with by Oscar De La Hoya and it subsequently ruined his legacy, imo. Golovkin is a legendary middleweight champion, probably top 5-10 at 160 ever, but all he will ever be known for is this trilogy that he lost 2 out of 3 fights in, according to the judges. History changes if he gets the decision he should have the first fight.
