Canelo won, probably by a couple of rounds in the end. He took most of the early rounds, some of the latter rounds Jacobs came though and took but ultimately couldn't do enough to swing it. Would have liked to have seen Jacobs be more aggressive at times, he has moments but seemed to let up. Always risky to concede so many early rounds.

And this is why it's so hard to be aggressive vs Canelo. Danny landed 4-5 punches here. Then you realize canelo allowed him to land those pitty pat shots only because he wanted set him up for the left hook. Danny landed 5 shots to canelo's 1 and he still took more damage in that exchange. And that shyt is discouraging. If that punch was a little lower it coulda have put Danny to sleep.

And that's always the gamble when facing Canelo. If you're gonna trade with canelo you're gonna have to open yourself up to his knockout punches. There's no other way. And that's why he turned golovkin into Devon Alexander. Canelo is gonna be tough for anybody because he's a guy who makes you pay for every mistake. And he doesn't just hit you, he hurts you.

Jacobs shook it off and kept coming...Jacobs hit Canelo much harder.

Fight was a lot tamer than I thought it would be. Had it 116 - 112 for Canelo, but there were 2 or 3 swing rds. At worst the fight is a draw, but I felt like the right man won.

Jacobs lost because he has a style identity crisis. Dude is actually an athletic brawler, but since he can box a lil and punch a lil he thinks he' s some type of boxer puncher. Dude lacks the refined technique to be a true boxer puncher. He's always at his best when he crowds you and swarms you with hooks and uppercuts, kinda like a poor mans Terry Norris. His long distance attacks aren't disciplined enough to be effective for long stretches. Sooner or later he gotta wing hooks at you to be effective or he'll be shut out.

Jacobs is a big dude, but he a lil nikka at heart. He think he a finesse fighter, but he's not. He moves around and does lil defensive poses while getting lit up by Canelo jab, hooks, and counters.

He should have been moved up to 168. He can't make 160 effectively anymore. Dude's performance was flat as hell. No pep in his step at all. He pushed his straight shots and lot of his punches lacked snap.
Jacobs will always lose to the elites like canelo n ggg because he can't control rounds as good as they do. There were so many times Jacobs would just move and run for no reason. nikka gave the fight away by not being aggressive enough in the first half. He didn't even make a strong enough case to say he got robbed. :hhh:

Jacobs needed to be swarming and attacking Canelo early and often. Just straight Salido/Chino type shyt.
Facts.

Fight really had only 4 good rounds. Neither had the extra gear to really push the other to the brink. Both looked tired towards the end.

as far as good middleweight bouts go...
I'd rate Canelo/GGG 2, Pavlik/Taylor, Taylor/Winky, Pavlik/Miranda, above what we saw from Canelo and Jacobs last night.

Neither fought like they HAD to have it, but i feel it's on the dude that's losing to do that more than the guy that's winning the sparring match. Danny should of went harder. It was his only chance.

Man, commentary was ultra biased, it's as if they awared Canelo a round by default and see if "Jacobs did enough" to win it :stopitslime: Like at some times, a round was clear for Jacobs and the announcer was like "great work by Jacobs but he didn't do enough to take it". I was like "What did Canelo do to get it then ?!" Infuriating. I had the fight 115-114 (10-10 in round 8 for me) but I feel like Jacobs could have won it had he boxed all along. But I feel like he kinda likes staying in the pocket and trade and like in the GGG fight, that's what cost him ultimately. Had he boxed mostly (easier said than done I know), he would have won IMO.
Some of his huge landed shots :

Also, doesn't it feel like Jacobs is often off balance ? Felt like his footwok was a bit stiff/stationnary (mostly when he was southpaw) but at times, it was like he was throwing shots with his feet glued to the canvas, not bending his knees at all. Not really being planted but like he was arm punching. I think he's far better when he's moving around and being light on his feet. See :

Re Canelo, I was really impressed by his jab, popped Danny's head back several times. Never noticed how good it was up until now. Also is upper body movement was godly at times :wow:

Finally, "I'm just a big middleweight" but Danny you struggled to make 170 :skip:

Fight wasn't what I hoped but they're high level guys with knockout power. So they're gonna be cautious of eachother. I think a canelo fight with charlo would be more exciting because charlo doesn't have the defense that Jacobs does. Even though canelo beat him clean I was still impressed with Danny's defense at times. But canelo just had him looking frustrated most of the fight. Like he was unsure of himself and didn't know else to do. That's why I think he kept switching stances. It's like he was trying to strike gold with something, but canelo would never let him keep his momentum for long.
