Sources close to the situation have informed us that former jr. middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has agreed to all terms for a potential May 2 clash with WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Although specific details of those terms were not revealed, one source commented, "Canelo's side has been agreed to. We're just waiting on Cotto."
We're told that the bout is still tentatively scheduled for May 2, 2015. Two possible venues being considered are The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas and AT&T Stadium (formerly Cowboys Stadium) in Dallas, Texas. Venues in Las Vegas and New York are also being considered. It's unclear if there's anything that might prevent Cotto from also agreeing to terms, but we're told that whatever major stumbling block that prompted Cotto's advisor, Gaby Penagaricano, to say that they were "not close to an agreement", has been resolved.
BE SURE TO CHECK BACK SOON FOR MORE DETAILS
[UPDATE] Golden Boy Promotions founder Oscar De La Hoya has confirmed what our sources told us. "My side is done and dealt with. We have agreed. So now, I'm waiting on Bob to get their side done," De La Hoya informed Lem Satterfield of RingTV.com. "Bob and I talked about the major issues that were a possible concern. But after our conversation, we found out that this fight will get made relatively sooner than anticipated. So we're getting closer. We are getting closer. I have no doubt in my mind that we will get Canelo-Cotto done for the May 2 of next year."
That is a lot of words to basically write an opinion piece that has no actual evidence disputing anything Oscar said.
From the Ring interview it states that Oscar has been negotiating primarily with Todd DuBoef, there was an impasse and Oscar reached out to Arum to help settle it, then Canelo agreed to everything that was placed in front of him. Now the onus is on Cotto to look over things and either agree or pass.
So basically Canelo is ready and just waiting on Cotto...sounds like the negotiations are progressing perfectly well since one half of the fight is ready to agree to the other sides terms.
Arum's quote from the Ring article:
"We’re still negotiating. Miguel has not been informed yet of various details of the negotiations, and everything is progressing favorably. But it has to take a little bit more time. We have to go through the process.”
So basically DuBoef/Arum has to take everything that Canelo agreed to back to Cotto and see if he is cool with it.
Of course Canelo's side is done. He actually has a promoter. Cotto hasn't signed on with Top Rank for his next fight year, so how could Bob Arum seal the deal? They're negotiating points without consulting Cotto or even hearing from him. That's because he's still in the running for a fight with Floyd and hasn't chosen his promoter. If the Pac/Floyd fight falls through, then this Canelo/Cotto thing is in jeopardy. Plus, even if he decided to take the Canelo fight, who says he'll sign with Top Rank?
How is Cotto a side when Canelo has the bigger ppv?So in other words Canelo agreed to his terms, nothing to see here.............................
Fukk does Canelo think he is Cotto is the A side.....Had Caleno agreed to Cotto term this fight would be a done deal, this is a posturing technique for a potential duck
Cotto and his manager have allowed Todd DuBoef to handle negotiations for them with Canelo. DuBoef was the point man for the negotiations for the Sergio Martinez fight too.Of course Canelo's side is done. Been trying to figure this out for the longest..How is Cotto a side when Canelo has the bigger ppv?
