Im sorry but this doesnt make any sense, friend. Just because you turn 18 does not mean you know everything there is to know. No matter the age we always remain students of life and there is knowledge and male experience that is vital for a woman to know to traverse the world we live in. Female CEO's in corporate America, a cut throat world of men, who do you think think they learn from? Friend, mentoring is a a vital aspect of life and anyone who says they dont need guidance, is a liar.

yeah but this isn't even about "guidance"....its about a man's need to control everything.

Yahoo ran this article to get just this type of discussion going. It wouldn't be a bad thing except Yahoo loves chaos and baiting articles so you have to wonder about their motives.

At any rate, you would have to be as blind as a bat to not see the link between the evolution of feminism and the loss of the family unit. And you would also have to be a fool to think those that perpetrated it didn't know what they were doing.

Nope.
:beli:

Ok, so he's not worthy of submission unless he has his money right, his own things, his own place AND he makes you feel all tingly inside with a swarm of butterflies in your stomach 24/7? And he must throw his sport coat over a puddle whenever it rains? And he must keep a smile on your face at all times no matter how combative you are(like in this thread for example)?

You just trying to push your argument, but you're pushing it off a cliff. I don't like having to do this, but I have to this in this situation.......................

:camby:

Peace

You wrote this post assuming I give a fukk about coats over puddles or the unrealistic expectation of not ever being confronted.

And you shouldn't have.

So let's end this here like we all growed up k?

Sound Reasoning
I don't think most women would mind staying home with their families but let's be honest here. People work because they have to. We live in a dual income society and unless you plan in making 100k on your own or don't want to send your kids to school, own a home, save, travel, pay loans etc you can't afford to have a housewife. Most of you make it seem like the women are trying to instigate a gender war when in reality people just can't afford that lifestyle.

Candace is well off, she can afford this. Most of my stay at home mom friends are the same- they come from wealthy families marry into wealth and can afford to stay at home and only use college as a means to find a husband (not to find a way to build and maintain a future). From what I've seen being a housewife is largely a white privilege.

Let's face it, blacks have been poor and kept poor in this country. We have not had time to build family or generational wealth like whites have. Now we can do that, so all of us work because we have to and hopefully it will benefit future generations. We shouldn't put down black career women because this is our chance to progress.

Great post, and I agree with your assessment. However, the issue is not the "having to work" part because that is understandable. The issue comes with the "independent" attitude that comes with the "career woman" who "has to work."

If more "career women" were on some "hey, I work because I have to but I would love to find a man that I can be who I can give myself to and just let my hair down once the workday is over" then cool. The issue is too many "career women" are on some "hey I work and I'm strong and independent and I don't need a man because I make my own money. So n#ggas can't tell me sh#t and I aint sssssuuuubbbbmmm....well, that word for anybody."

You're right...having a stay home wife is a privilege that most black couples don't have the opportunity to consider. However, there's a difference between a woman working in order to help her household have all the money it needs and wants. And a woman who uses her career as a weapon against her man or men in general because she feels that she's above submitting to a quality man.

Peace

I understand what you're saying. There's a difference but I think what happens is both sides use the submissive argument aggressively and interpret it as a means to undermine, control, and silence the truth that women have to be independently successful . If you look at the women who are saying they won't ever be submissive, look at the type of men they are talking about. Usually they generalize too and are addressing the type if man who thinks being submissive means "make be a sandwich bytch and fold my clothes I dropped on the floor while you're at it" (so basically just doing chores and making food while he uses a type of mental relationship based manipulation to maintain his dominant role). You've got these two types of people with CONTEMPT for one another (like the op) talking about this age old term in modern society and no one is really talking about the same thing. And no one is really talking about what it really means. Men use it as a term to attack women (esp black women) and women think it means men want to abuse them. Both are wrong.

As a black woman with a career who is around other career black women', I don't see very many women with that attitude you described. It's a stereotype about black women and I feel like people are tying to use or as a reason to dislike them, especially here. It's like believing all black men want to be gangstas and saying that's why you won't date them.

I don't know. I don't think being a career woman and being a good wife and mother is mutually exclusive. I also don't think a person who chooses career is in the wrong. Life's too short to not do what makes you happy or to be with someone who int willing to either compromise or understand you.
