Black people are pretty much the same. We mostly come from the Caribbean, Africa, or escaped slavery from the US and came to Canada. I've got black family all over Canada and the US, all the way down to Texas, North Carolina and Oakland. Black people from the East Coast are almost like Southern people. There are links between Black people from Scotia to New Orleans.

Canada likes to pretend they don't have a racism problem, but if you were to ask Black and Indigenous people, we'd tell you the opposite. Most of our culture is American. 65% of the entire population lives a 90 minute drive from a US border, so most of the media we get comes from the US.

Outside of major towns Canada is very white, so if you are anything else you stand out. But in Toronto your surrounded by every race and culture.

Edit - think Brooklyn or London UK.

Thank you.
So yall got any original Canadian foods, and styles etc or is it all pretty much just stuff from Caribbean and black Americans?

Original Canadian food would be like a poutine or bannock bread maybe. Maple syrup...Our diets are the same bro. In Toronto we have food from every corner of the planet. Whatever you want that day you got it. Toronto is known for the best food in North America aside from only LA. If you have friends from different cultures which most of us do, you've probably tried a bit of everything. My wife is Filipina, so we have Filipino food all the time. Plus she loves oxtail, jerk chicken, etc. We don't have as much soul food, but you can still get it.

I actually know quite a few Black Nova Scotians. I'm not one personally (family is from oklahoma/texas/louisiana mostly), but my grandmother's sister married one. They're basically the same as Black Americans culturally :yeshrug:

Say what you want about Canada, you would never see a convicted felon and rapist running for PM.

Canada is not a monolith. BC to Alberta to Ontario to Quebec etc have very different cultures. Even in Quebec it depends which city and which neighborhood. Im from montreal and i would say most black people here are either Haitian (like me) african (mostly from french speaking african countries) or Jamaica, trinidad, etc. so i would say our culture tends to be a mix of the country we come from, american culture and some quebec culture sprinkled in.

I watch mostly american shows but music wise i would say i listen to maybe 30% american music. Food wise, i probably eat 70% Haitian food. I speak mostly french day to day. I speak french and creole with my parents as they don't speak English.
