I always figured the production companies bought all the equipment.

Nah they pay the wadges for staff, talent, location, production crew, etc. I guess technically they are by renting out gear, but they don't buy that stuff. Way too expensive and not logical. For example, a lot of tv shows shot in "Toronto" are actually shot in Hamilton. Companies get a bigger tax break. You might be able to get away with housing your gear in Toronto proper, but having to keep a warehouse for gear adds up over time. Same thing with lights. The higher up camera guys own a bunch of the lighting as well. I currently work for CBC which is ironic after making this video, and CBC actually has tons of gear. Like all of it from Audio to video gear, but they are a crown company. So all of the gear is actually government property. Otherwise there are companies like OC (Ontario Camera) or Whites, who rent out gear. shyt even sand bags, A/C's, and apple boxes are rented out.

The only breh in 75 % of Canadian tv shows that i've seen.

You can't shoot a scifi show in canada without giving Roger Cross a call. Legend
:wow:

The Expanse to me feels like a Canadian show considering they shoot in Toronto. So many Canadian actors of all races over the years.

The actress that played Hazel on Degrassi spoke about this years ago. She was one of the few black cast members and they barely gave her any stories. I think she had one episode about her in season two and that was it. She would go to the writers and ask for more stories, but they wouldn't give it to her.

Simu Liu (Shang Chi) complained about this on Kim's Convenience. And the show was supposed to be about a Canadian-Asian family. This might be an issue with who is allowed to create shows in Canada. At the time, Liu mentioned that the entire writer's room was white or something like that.

Worst Korean accents I have ever heard. Decent show, and I drive by actual store all the time. They fukked up and dropped the bag with that show now that he is on par to be a huge movie star. Also crazy it was very high rated and they gave them the vapors unlike Schitts Creek. Both shows should have lifted Canadian TV up higher. If they can do a Kim's Convenience, give me a show about black family that is not trauma porn. Hiw about a legit black comedy or multi racial comedy that is real in 2022?

You're not wrong. I've been watching Degrassi since the 80's. They have never really done non white characters justice. Drake killed it as Jimmy. Ill give him that, but Degrassi is presented as a very white school. By white, I mean white kid problems. Innocent even when getting high or pregnant type shyt. Good soap opera shyt, but very unrealistic to how I grew up in Toronto. And I grew up close to Degrassi street, before moving to Scarborough. Now that I think about it, not too many black families in Riverdale though..
