There's no support in Canada for athletes, maybe hockey but that's it. Schools dont take it seriously, they don't build a business around amateur sports when its a proven muti-million (billion) $$ company. Dumb a$$es dunno the worth of a star athlete. There are definitely a handful out there that can prolly do great things but being born in Canada will hinder your opportunities to get there. If u were in the states and fast (or talented) you get noticed and offered sh!t from jump. Not in Cananda, even if you highly touted, just get ur a$$ to the states. rep them if u have too. cuz canada is a land of mediocrity. and if u a star athlete u belong somewhere else unless u a maple leaf.

To those who say that Connaughton should be the flag bearer for the closing ceremonies is exactly the reason why Canada will never be a top threat in the Olympics unless they change their attitude and mentality. You want to have a guy who costs his country a BRONZE medal (not GOLD!) to represent your country in the closing ceremonies is an absolute joke. Yes, Connaughton showed great leadership and class owning up and apologizing for his mistake, but to have him represent your country to close out the Olympics is embarrassing. Countries like the U.S. and China will never even think about considering it, especially not for a bronze medal. Until we start taking sports seriously, we will always be average in the Olympics. Jay said it best, "Moral victories are for minor league coaches". Step it up Canada!

The Canadian National Basketball Team should be good in the next 4 years.
Also, what happen to the Canadian track team? They were USA track rivals before Jamaica.

People criticizing bronze medal winners is just straight up retarded. Canada should be more like USA? We should handicap our minorities so that athletic ability should be one of the only ways for social mobility?

I dunno how good they'll be, I mean a buncha other countries got 1st round draft picks too. But they spend their last couple years in the US for HS because that's how they'll get their scholarships. Don't quote me on this but I don't think they NCAA likes dealing with Canadian school boards because they are not co-operative. In hte US they give a star HS athlete a lot. In canada u get nothing. its like night and day and if u wanna be a pro and do it as a living u need that exposure thus u need to go to the states. so if u good in canada. u gotta get noticed by 15 or u not gonna do it nad be stuck in canada.
Thank the Principals and teachers for that. I saw why the NCAA doesn't wanna deal with CDN high schools and it has everything to do with putting athletes on a pedastal. SOmehting canada doesn't do.

EDIT: Kevin Pangos made it because he won the ship by droppin 40 a game in HS. but if u wanna go to Texas or Kentucky or some sh!t u need to go to the US.
