I'm saying. None of the Chris' are anywhere near superstars. Pratt's the only one that has done anything majorly successful outside Marvel and that was an already established franchise. It's why I found it hilarious that some Marvel stans were mad at Mahershala getting Blade. That's quite possibly the best leading actor/actress y'all have ever had:mjlol:

I dont know what the fukk they talkin bout I love Wesley fukkin Snipes but he is ten years older than Ali and not nearly as good of an actor. Ali got Oscars and probably bout to get an Emmy and this was also HIS idea and Blade needed to be rebooted and I say that as someone that love Blade and Blade II

Also Ali is a dude that does pop off the screen to me :myman:

Nah it’s innate. You either have it or you don’t. It’s not like being a good actor, which is also a gift but you can learn and become better. You can’t learn to become a star. And there are maybe two or three actual stars left. Maybe

In this era, can any actor make you want to go see a boring looking movie or serious drama?

Leo probably considered that one dude, but nobody going to the theaters to see J. Edgar Hoover.

Keanu a star right? But if he tries to headline some bullshyt, nobody gonna go see that shyt.

The formula is the only thing that's bankable today.

1. A headline actor, great idea/story, it director, great ensemble.

2. Sequels to well received action movies(franchises).

3. Marvel.

You can think a dude is the biggest of stars, but if you don't pair that star with the right formula, he will bomb like the rest.

There is just too much information today, money is tight, infinite viewing options. nikkas aint see no movies based on the back of a "movie star".

Movie industry is more about behind the camera and marketing than the actual actors now. The directors, writers, producers, and the IPs themselves tend to be the stars more than stars themselves for a lot of movies/franchises.

Leo’s the one guy for me. Well of the “star” types. Hollywood reporter did an interesting article on him this week all about that.

Keanu is an action star. People will see him in an action movie and hopefully in the new bill and Ted.

Everyone else goes by the formula you say. It’s directors, characters, and studios now

I'd say Keanu in a well reviewed new action IP will give you a nice moderate return.

Keanu in a badly reviewed action movie still gonna bomb.

Keanu in a sequel to a well reviewed action movie will get you "movie star" returns.

I'll go look at the Leo article, but to me it's just great actors in movies or great action actors in movies.

Leo is a great actor no doubt, but does he make or break the movies he's in? The Revenant is a curious case, but that movie still had great reviews.

Don't you think another Headline actor could have produced the same financial results given the same reviews?

Reviews don’t always matter. We’ve seen that with the lion king. And all those transformers movies. When people want to see a thing they see that thing

Yeah negative reviews don't hurt franchises, but positive reviews are essential for new IP's.

And even with positive reviews, there still needs to be some sort of trending magic that happens to get people off of their asses to see a drama like the Revenant. So that one is an outlier.

I just feel like the magic of that movie itself is the draw over a superstar actor.

I think reviews are less important if you have someone starring people still want to see. What helps Leo is he’s not out here like that. He rarely does press, he rarely uses twitter unless it’s for a cause, and he’s not in our faces. So even if something like the wolf of wall st did get bad reviews, or the revenant, its still Leo and because he’s so choosy, people associate him with dope

Wolf of Wall Street was an it movie. People were generally like fukk them pretentious reviews.

Had an It directer.

Great ensemble.

The Story itself was also trending.

We're on the same page there. I'm just saying bad reviews wouldn't sink a Leo movie because the perception is he doesn't do bad movies anyway

Or that he's so interesting to watch that a movie could be otherwise ehhh but with Leo he elevates it. I think Tom Cruise is still a star nobody would care about Top Gun coming back without Cruise and I don't think just anyone can helm the Mission: Impossible franchise.

I think The Rock is close, he's had a couple failures but I mean he damn near brought Jumanji to a billion and movies like San Andreas did very well

Yeah. I know this may be a bad example but when I see skits and stuff online like RDCworld1 Mark is the one who stands out the most because he's the only one that actually knows how to be on camera.

I actually fux with this example. :ehh:

But those other nikkas could put in work and get better and up to his level.
