It might not be the battery at all, his actual phone could be broken and it doesn't matter if he changes the battery. He also gave you additional information in the form of nothing happening when he plugs his charger in. While that would be the expected result observed if the battery wasn't working and does fit your narrative of the battery being the problem, it could also indicate however that it is the charger that doesn't work which could suggest the phone and the battery are fine but maybe the battery is completely dead and he can't charge it because the charger doesn't work. However due to your premise that the battery is the problem you have interpreted the information you gained in a way which fits your premise. While all the information you have been given fits your premise and your solution is the correct course of action in that case, it relies entirely on your premise being indeed true.
