Can we talk about how the Atlanta Hawks finessed the fukk out the Mavs, all over a Euro?

Well next year is supposedly a weak draft. They can have the pick especially if it’s 8-13. If the next few years Dallas does improve and becomes a playoff team, than essentially, the trade was just young for doncic as Atlanta won’t have entirely a great position to pick. In the end, I’m fine with that. Good trade for both sides. Both got their man.

Name a team in the west besides memphis you guys are better than next year. Even if y'all add deandre jordan or cousins, y'all still the 2nd worst:mjlit:

So a rebuilding Mavs team is fine with potentially losing a lottery pick for one of the next 5 years? :dwillhuh:

It's ok to admit when you've been finessed...just gotta do better next time, that's all

I mean my point went way over your head.

In 2019, since the draft is weak, most Mavs fans won’t care if you are picking 9th in the draft. If you don’t want that pick and the Mavs improve in the coming years, with their large cap space and doncic shows he is the real deal, than your pick gets even worse as the years go by.

You can call it finessed. I don’t care. The Mavs got a player far better than trey young imo. And who is to say the Mavs will be a lottery team all five of those years?

They don't have to take the pick next year though. Hawks get to select which pick they want over the next 4-5 years. Mavs got a lot riding on Luca
It's not just Luka.

They're essentially banking on free agency one more time. It's not just "well all we need is Luka and we're in the playoffs." They're going all in on Cousins, Randle, whatever they can spend.

and if they miss the playoffs anyway, by many accounts, next year's draft is trash, so to them it's not a big price to pay.

Pretty sure they'll be picking in 2019 :francis:
Just depends. The pick loses protections after each year. Don't quote me on order, but it's like top 5 first two, then top 3, then unprotected. Hawks got options.

:philjacksonlol: Dallas lost. Whether Doncic pans out or not is irrelevant.

:philjacksonlol: They’ve essentially gave up an unprotected first round draft pick, because Atlanta gets to choose, and I believe in 2023 it becomes fully unprotected.

The pick getting worse as the years go by is under the assumption the mavs will have what it takes to compete in the west. Dennis and luka plus some free agent overpays is not a bright future. That might be passable in the east but not the west.

Y'all wont be able to add anymore foundational pieces through the draft. Its never good when u miss the playoffs and you dont even have your pick.:heh:

How is he "far better"? Trae has an NBA jumper and 3 pointer already...Doncic himself has admitted he doesn't have an NBA jumpshot and that's something he needs to work on. They're both average athletically. Both are considered the top 2 passers in this draft. Outside of Doncic being 5-6 inches taller how is he "far better"?
