Mavs gave up a top 5 protected #1 pick to move up 1 spot to draft a Euro, and yet the media acting like Dallas won the trade???

I'm seriously not understanding this logic. The Euro may be good but at the expense of basically an unprotected #1 pick a year after going 24-58??

How is that even a responsible FO decision? A top 5 protected pick to trade up1spot?

Really? :scusthov:

It was 2 spots, but yeah. A lot of these outlets especially the independent guys on podcasts and YouTube have been on some "Dallas get an A+ for drafting Doncic, nobody else can get higher than a B cause you didn't draft Doncic"

:mjlol: Its an odd thing they have with him. If he actually busted it would be quite comical, though I think he'll be good now with Dallas.

Cacs gon be cacs so i can’t blame social media
Breh it took me like two full days to digest what the Mavs did. When I saw Dallas had protections on the pick, I was like "Okay, its probably lottery protected. Cool they gave up a pick but even if they suck, Hawks not seeing the pick for 10 years lol lol lol".

That's what I honestly thought to the point I didn't look at the details of the protections.

Then I saw the pick was only top 5 protected. Safe to say I went from :francis: to :mjlol::russ::scust: about the trade .

Like this had to be a joke, right? Dallas gave up that to move up 1 slot for a Euro

:hhh::hhh::hhh:

It was actually 1 spot because it was clear Atlanta was taking Young no matter what.

so if mavericks dont land a top 5 pick next year it goes to atlanta? This might be celtics sixers trade all over again. With rick carlisle they aint tanking for another year.

but this doncic guy is interesting case, he looks slow unathletic but he got so damn lucky in europe winning euroleague, eurobasket, all those titles. Plus in dallas he gets dirk to mentor him, can't ask for a better situation for this guy

This is such a mark cuban move, he wants another white star badly :mjpls:

Doesn't matter if they try to tank for not, they're in the same division as Houston, NO, SA and a Memphis team that didn't play their best player all season because they were tanking.

They could easily go 30-52 next season which would be a top 9 pick at least.

They would've been comfortable with Doncic

Doncic didnt want to play there. I made a thread about this a couple weeks ago. That's what the whole thing was about the comment he made about not coming to play next year. I said there were only two teams that he was going to play for and that was Dallas and Chicago....and I didnt see how Chicago was going to make the move for him.

Essentially, the Suns wanted Ayton and went cold on Doncic. Doncic camp didnt want him to go to any of the other 5 teams after that and he wasnt going to drop past there.

He's not that good. I just dont see it. Its hard for me to say he will be better than Dragic. He will likely be a better version of Turkoglu but I like everyone else in the top 9 picks over him.

I think Young will be an ok player, but coupled with this protected pick, yeah, ATL easily won this in my eyes.

The Mavs were statistically one of the unluckiest teams ever in close games last season, and if everything went normally in those games, they would have had 32-33 wins. Plus the Mavs are done tanking and will be trying to win next season and next year's draft is said to be much weaker. The pick might not even be top 10

Doncic isn't just some ordinary hyped Euro who played some minutes for a big team, he was MVP of the entire league. What he has done at his age is unprecedented

They don't have to take the pick next year though. Hawks get to select which pick they want over the next 4-5 years. Mavs got a lot riding on Luca

:mjlol: at done tanking like they can just flip a switch and be a playoff team. News flash: Even if Dallas does want to win next year they're not a playoff team in the Western Conference

Will all be bettter than Dallas next season and that's with me assuming Dallas will be better this year too. So in all likelihood we're getting a lottery pick from them next season and we got the player we wanted all along. Masterful work by Schlenk :banderas:
