Didn't the humans have the upper hand from jump? They had all the firepower they needed. The only reason the Apes were able to even it out is because they attacked and stole weapons. There was no indication that the humans were going to be a threat once the dam got going. They had no other business in the forest.
A lot of humans blamed the apes for the plague and/or feared them. At some point they were going to put those guns to use.

He didn't have a son. It was Rocket's son.
But this movie dealt with differing life experiences so well. I didn't agree with Koba....but I felt where he was coming from. And Caesar was coming from the standpoint that he has lived and grown with good humans while also seeing the evil that other humans were capable of. Koba only ever saw the bad. In the end, when the positions of power were essentially reversed, Koba became that which he hated.
