I mean, he used to stay off beat to get all those words in a bar..lol. Truth is, Talib hasn't rapped like that in a long time, so you would be hard pressed to find new music where he does that. :yeshrug:

But Talib still nice.

Eardrum is still on rotation. Quietly the best album on 2007

Mos was still my favorite tho... :obama:

If y'all shytting on Kweli now, imagine how hard the future generation will shyt on so-called "brilliant lyricists of today" :laff: All these new lyricists have shyttier voices than Kweli with way worse rhymes.

Truth is, his career has been more about timing than talent.

He was able to pop up at the right time in the mid to late 90's when underground MC's were flourishing and getting deals more than any other time. It was fashionable to be an underdog back then, and he was able to jump in right when that was poppin'.

But he's always been kind of a mushmouth, to me. Like someone already said, it seems like he tries to fit too many words in bars. Just no type of control to his flow at all, so the verses have always sounded kinda sloppy to me. But if you stand him next to a Mos Def, Common or Hi-Tek, he inherits credibility from the company he keeps. And that's what's kept him around. Without sounding too harsh, without the associations, I don't think Kweli gets past the Lyricist Lounge era.

I'm not gonna call him completely trash, there are tracks from him that I like and he has improved. But there are classic songs out there that he's ruined
Heres the thing...he's got some certified classics.

But...thats just not enough to justify the amount of bad content you have to shift through of his to get to anything remotely decent.
