SoR2, Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country are the top flight OSTs of the 90's.

Yuzo Koshiro, the composer, went on record saying he'd go to the dance clubs in Tokyo which were playing Detroit House and German Techno and he wanted to basically make that kind of music and put it into a game.

It's wild too because he damn near recreates every type of techno that was out at the time.
