nikkas wanted a tear it down rebuild for years. I'm not surprised at all.

The problem is that you can't be in "permanent" rebuilding mode and just be fishing for draft picks year after year

You got to have a winning culture if you ever want to get out of the mud

The best example is Portland. They were terrible for a while, now they seem committed to actually have a winning culture and develop the young players. OKC and Orlando did the same thing 3 years back, and look at where they are now

The Wizards had Ernie Grunfeld and Tommy Sheppard from 2003-2023. 20 years of half measures. The only time they rebuilt was after Arenas brought guns to the locker room, tanked for 3 years, and got Wall and Beal.

They hired Michael Winger who was with the Clippers and Thunder to run all the basketball operations last year.

Will Dawkins got hired as GM. He was in Seattle and OKC from 2007-2023. This is his rebuild. Let's see what the breh can do. So far he's drafted

Coulibaly
Sarr
Carrington
George

He flipped Deni Avdija for Carrington, a 2029 1st, and Brogdon.

He got rid of Bradley Beal without giving up assets. Flipping CP3 for Jordan Poole is fine, but expensive. Re-signed Kuzma to a declining contract.

This is still deconstruction mode. They will not be competitive until 2027 or these kids grow up fast. 19 and 20 year olds are playing big minutes.

Ok. If those were his imprints, then he's doing a good job so far

But on the 2nd bolded, that's really not how you build young stars. They have to spend to get veterans on the team to help mold the young players, and create a winning culture.

Portland got - Jerami Grant, Robert Williams, Thybulle
Orlando Magic brought in KCP and Gary Harris
Houston Rockets are the best example. Brought in VanVleet, Steven Adams, Dillon Brooks, Jeff Green. And look how it's paying them dividends

If they don't do this, they are will continue to go nowhere

You‘re right, but this is basically phase one of the build. When the next phase begins, they will sign solid vets and start trading the young assets for better talent.

Since Jordan arrived in 2000, the Wizards‘ ambition has been to be a fourth seed in the playoffs at best. This is after the decade prior just trying to make the playoffs. It’s going to take time to tear all of that down and rebuild.

Yeah before him I just looked up the drafts and it’s hard to miss and and or not have a pick that many times.

Forget that, I think the '73 Sixers are very much within reach. That said, if the Wiz #CaptureTheFlagg, it just might be worth it.

Only reservation I have is that you don't wanna see them get boatraced every night. That can wear on a young team and become part of its DNA. When it's time to contend, but all you know is losing by double-digits 80% of the time...

They're playing a bunch of rookies and tank commanders. This is better than fighting for the 12th seed every season.

If it leads to a top 2 pick it'll be worth it.
