Yes, that is one way you can do to adjust for the pace but it still doesn't adress the fact that Bird played against much worse defenses. The best defensive teams from the 80s wouldn't stand a chance defensively against some of the competition that Garnett had to face during his prime.

Sure, I completely buy that Bird is the more impactful offensive player. Garnett doesn't even have an argument against Bird offensively, he's clearly worse. But the differences defensively between the two is even bigger, Bird was an average defender while Garnett is a top 3 defender of all-time.

Btw, I'd also take Shaq ahead of KG. Shaq peaked even higher, had a better prime (5 year, 10 year, whatever you choose) and the difference in longevity isn't enough to make up for that. Bird is a different story though, he's not that far ahead of Garnett during his prime to make up for the fact that Garnett has much better longevity.

I mean, I don't find it ridiculous that someone would rank Bird higher, but I disagree.
:laff: @ the thought of KG being ranked ahead of LARRY BIRD.

You are on a roll this morning. dapped

You seem to want to narrow down Dirk's career into two years.

Here are the facts before 2011, most of these are before 2011

NBA champion (2011)
NBA Finals MVP (2011)
NBA Most Valuable Player (2007)
13× NBA All-Star (2002–2012, 2014–2015)
4× All-NBA First Team (2005–2007, 2009)
5× All-NBA Second Team (2002–2003, 2008, 2010–2011)
3× All-NBA Third Team (2001, 2004, 2012)
50–40–90 club (2007)
NBA Three-Point Shootout champion (2006)
NBA Shooting Stars champion (2010)
Dallas Mavericks all-time leading scorer
FIBA World Cup MVP (2002)
FIBA EuroBasket MVP (2005)
6× Euroscar Player of the Year (2002–2006, 2011)
5× Eurobasket's All-Europeans Player of the Year (2005–2008, 2011)
2× FIBA Europe Player of the Year (2005, 2011)
Mister Europa Player of the Year (2005)
Silbernes Lorbeerblatt (2011)
German Sports Personality of the Year (2011)
Naismith Legacy Award (2012)
Magic Johnson Award (2014)

22.5 PPG, 9 RPG and can go off from anywhere on the court. Stretched out the defense like crazy, but can also post you up if needed to hit you with that one legged fade.

LOL @ the thought of Dirk not being a legend nor a hall of famer before 2011 :laff:

Argue KG > Dirk all you want, that's fine...but to diminish this dude's career like that is straight up stupid.

I didn't diminish his career and I never once said he wasn't great...

I just said after he won a title it catapulted his career to a place it wasn't even close to being...

Again...certainly if he was this great player before 2011, you can find plenty of articles that say "Dirk is a hall of famer" "Dirk is a top 10 PF ever" "Dirk is better than KG" "Dirk is better than Bird"....

So go ahead and post them

Listen man, you seem to be a huge Garnett stan, but NOBODY is building a team with KG over Kobe. That's straight up ridiculous, Kobe is arguably top SIX all time.

Your list is off btw, take off Garnett who clearly does not belong there and put Duncan in there.

The list wasnt in order. And yes, Duncan is definitely someone I rank higher than Kobe. He slipped my mind.

But my point still stands, if you believe Kobe is better then make an argument for him. Im listening.

He led his franchise to three straight championship runs as "The Man" in a loaded western conference, winning 2 finals mvps as well post shaq. Garnett didn't even do it ONCE, that year they won Pierce contributed more against the lakers than KG did on his way to finals MVP.

His stats and credentials alone is proof enough, what MVP winner doesn't make it to the hall of fame on top of all his other accomplishments before 2011? Stop it breh, you are exposing yourself.

Breh you out here posting all star appearances like them shyts aren't popularity contest...you out here giving Dirk credit for playing in a game where every year some player who is to hurt to even play is a top vote getter...

He won the 3 point contest...who gives a fukk...

He's the mavericks all time leading scorer...because he's played on the team longer than anyone...that is what happens when you play on a team longer than anyone has ever played on a team in a teams history...it is highly likely you are going to lead them in...something...dude game is so lightweight due to him never ever playing anything that remotely passes for defense I'd be shocked if Dirk doesn't finish his career as a top 5 scorer...

Not top 5 in rebounds though...

Or blocks...

Or any defensive metric using any type of advanced stat...

The magic johnson award :mjlol:

His credentials...? Is letting a young d wade surrounded by maybe the most :old: of all time rob him of a title a part of his credentials?

Is being the only player to be called the league MVP but somehow be unable to even shoot 40% for a series against one of the worst defensive teams in nba history a part of his credentials?

Is winning a title...and then going home in the 1st round...not making the playoffs at all...then going home in the 1st round again part of his credentials? At least KG made it back to the finals after winning one...Dirk won his 1 ring and he hasn't been anywhere near the finals since...

Still waiting on those articles to...

German Sports Personality of the Year...:russ:...breh your caping for Dirk is actually doing him an injustice I am starting to think that this dude is getting awards just for the sake of getting awards now...and that is not something that HOF players need to pad their resume...

Are you really Mark Cuban:russ:? Does Mark Cuban post on the coli?:gladbron:

@Walt I told you breh...look at what you did...you got guys in here using the German Sports Personality of the Year award to pad Dirks HOF career...I'm negging you later on today and I might even have to use some aliases to neg you for subjecting me to this foolishness

I just copied and pasted the wikipedia page.

KG won his championship on a stacked team...going through a weak east and a lakers team who only had half a season to gel with Pau. Dirk's finals runs are way more impressive than KG. You suggesting that nobody thought Dirk was a hall of famer pre 2011 is ridiculous fam, let the hate go. The guy has had an amazing career and established a winning culture out in Dallas...won his championship against a stacked Miami team and no other hall of famer remotely close to his prime while doing so.

Championships are won by teams, not players. But yes, it's impressive that Lakers went to three straight finals between 08-10. But during that period, Garnett was in two of those finals and injured for one year. When you look past team success and dive into the numbers you'll notice that its very tough to argue that Kobe was more impactful than Garnett over their careers. Garnett had a better peak, better prime and has better longevity.

Winning the finals MVP doesn't really mean anything. It was clear as day that Garnett was better than Pierce in 08. It's not even close and it's laughable to say that Pierce contributed more in any series. Celtics 08 were one of the most dominant defensive teams of all-time and won that series and every other because of their defense. The one who anchored that defense and was by far the best defender in the league that year was KG. They gave Pierce the award for scoring more in that series, not because he was more impactful than KG.

Magic and Bird are the other two that I'd be fine with someone putting either over and below KG - I have Bird below KG. Bird didn't peak as high as KG and has significantly less longevity.
