Im not sure why everyone is taking offense to the "kings of comedy" moniker, as if it were the results of some kind of poll, and not a self-anointment from four cats who saw that black comedy was hot as a pistol at the time and they wanted to get in on the action. They just made the claim, branded themselves, and ran with it.
The kings of comedy was more about bringing back an older style of black comedy that was "pre-hip hop" generation, and would therefore resonate with a more mature black crowd that didnt get the younger niccas. It was like your funny uncle's comedy, and it was all marketing 101.
Again, they were just trying to muscle in on the Chris Rock's and Martin Lawrences of the world, and it worked. Them brothas caked off that kings of comedy sht, and they all had solid careers after. Clap for 'em.
