That fact that it breaks the fukk out of the cliches you see in most High Fantasy works warrants that you give the show or books a chance.

1. Multi character driven show with each character going for the same thing as all the others. You'll identify with some,love some and hate some. That's what good dramas are all about. They make you have emotions for the characters.
As somebody who never liked medieval shyt and always joked on my brothers for playing skyrim and rpgs and never watched harry potter, let me just tell ya...
It's not like other magical medieval shyt at all. shyt is about politics, backstabbing, war, revenge, and all other elements of drama that makes for great TV. Yea there's magic, but shyt isn't the main driving force of the show.

it ain't on some nikkas waving wands changing people into frogs, people being invisible type shyt, if that's what you might think.
well written detailed and intertwined storylines, a great balance of action and story telling, great dialogue, just overall entertaining.
i see why people like the show but i had to give up on it...i dont think there is enough exciting shyt happening for a show with a zombie army..dragons..whores..giants..and magic...it is mostly dialogue [characters talking about other characters] but it is thrilling...i stopped watching because i would anticipate the next episode thinkn something big was about to happen but it was just more talking...the wire is like that [driven by dialogue] but it is much better than game of thrones...i can recall a lot of what was said on the wire and can only remember some [of the many] character names on game of thrones...i would recommend it from what ive seen but my interest in the show has diminished quite a bit...

seriously. just watch it and figure out if you like it or not. i dunno why cats need to be talked into watching/liking a fukking tv show.
The story is unpredictable, and it doesn't harm the story. Pick a main, good guy or bad guy you can't see the plot armor if there even is any with how GRRM treats his characters.
There's no obvious good vs evil or "let's save the world" plot. While there is a big threat to the world, within the Universe most of the characters just don't know and shyt is so background that even the reader/watcher forgets about it at times taking in the characters, the world and the political intrigue.
