Can I get a good HP Desktop for under $400?

I hate to derail, but can anyone recommend a laptop for the same price.

Nothing fancy, just need a decent workhorse.

just go to bestbuy and pick up something from a decent brand in your price range

To the OP, save yourself the time and just go buy one..this is not 1999, you arent saving that much $$$$$ by building one.....esp for people who just want to surf the net and burn music...

I've had 1 for 8 years and only had 2 problems with it.

Was just asking since the thread was already made. Obviously I would have had to do that regardless. Hypothetically speaking, if there are 3 similar, but not identical choices then what's the harm in asking if one has an edge over the other?

if you just want to do basic shyt, you don't need 8gb. 4 is fine, and memory is cheap to upgrade. something like this would probably be straight:

well then ask about those 3

the point is any would probably suit your needs, so the factors that really end up mattering are things that are convenient to you: like what store is close to you and what they have on sale

you are overpaying doing that. so yeah you are saving money by not getting garbage by walking into bestbuy while the employee s you to death about having to get a premium anti-virus subscription, MS Office, and other software that you can find free and better alternatives for.

Would you like to add a 2 year geeksquad protection plan for that as well?

I've been using the same HP since 2003 with no problems


I'm about to upgrade soon but still, u can't get any more reliable than 10 yrs with zero problems.


Meanwhile I hear people saying that laptops/pcs/macs they've copped 3 years ago have already croaked
