I read and watch many reviews that speak of the Asus Laptops being a cheaper alternative to the Apple MacBooks.

$500 is too much for an old macbook imo.
Nah that is about right for the performance and build quality.

Those Ivy Bridge Processors still hold up pretty well compared to U series CPUs before this latest 7th gen revision.

Can somebody recommend me a solid laptop under 500 that can handle music production?.....Not anything serious. Just maschine software, daws, keyboards. Something that won't be crashing or freezing up. Not gonna be doing any recording. Just making beats.

My only issue is software support.

At $500 you're looking at a 2011 model. How long do you think they will provide OS updates?

If you have no issues with that, then it a good to fair buy depending on the specs.

you can find a older macbook for 300 on craigslist, spend the rest on ram and a ssd and it will perform comparable to a 1500 macbook. probably wont have
retina display but its still a macbook.
is retina worth it?

A decent older macbook is gonna cost about $750 -$1000

That's what I'm seeing for anything in the 2012-15 model range. Gone stay tuned to these ebay auctions tho

@Motife43 are you in Atlanta?

Nah been gone for about a year now. You got a plug?

Becareful with EBay. I bought one there from a guy with a great rep and it was a brick. Luckily the seller took it back easy and I got my money back (I'm assuming to keep their high seller score).

The only place I would buy a Mac used is "Mac of all trades". It's where I eventually bought my MacBook from that has worked damn good for over a year now. They have sales there too if your patient enough.

Na but seriously... look at your local craigslist.

When I got my 1st Macbook pro..... I found one on CL for around $500 with all the Adobe programs. I later got a brand new Gen 1 Retina Display MBK Pro (was a gift from fam)

But you will be surprised what you find on there

Apple just stopped selling that 13" mid 2012 model last year so it should still get OS updates for a few more years.
