Tell me what makes a good rapper to you and give me an example of a good rapper (other than Chuck D), and I will use it as a template to judge Chuck D as a rapper...

I don't care about hip hop before Doggystyle (except for 2Pac) that's the context from which I am coming from...That's why I am asking for an example of a good rapper so we can compare it with Chuck D...

This dudes really can't rap...Vanila Ice on "Ice Ice Baby" is a better rapper than Chuck D has ever and will ever be..

Put all the "he is a legend" ear plugs away and tell me is "technically" speaking (to use Coli Lingo) if Chuck D is a good rapper...

technically yea. he has an ill voice, interesting cadence, incredible lyrics, incredible concepts, tells great stories, and an overall style thats completely his. you really couldnt ask for anything more

Where is your example for comparison, because anybody can say that about any rapper...

That is as vague as it gets...If I said the same thing about Ballout, my negative reps will be in the minus 1000....

yes chuck d can rap but is he in the same legaue as g rap rakim kane masta ace cube scarface melle mel etc from his time period imo hell nah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and also what makes a good technically sound lyricist imo

1. sense in your lyrics
2. good vocab
3. great to good complex rhyme schemes
4. metaphors
5. wordplay
6 punchlines
7.various in flows / rhyming on beat
8. content.

Ice Ice baby is one of the GREATEST hip hop songs...Based on the numbers...And it's one of my favourite joints...

I like MCs who rhyme when the snare hits...Chuck D's rhyming is off to me...I can't stand it, and I don't care about the "message"...

If you take away the 'message' and 'pioneer' factor, what separates Chuck D from a Ballout or a Tadoe...

If Chuck D was releasing his first album next week Tuesday, I don't think many people will be lining up to buy it based on the delivery...

His a pioneer who could only be successful because he got lucky to be in the right place at the right time....That's why they didn't survive the 90's...They couldn't keep up with the new breed of MCs...

Yet, 90s rappers are still way BETTER than the new dudes coming out....
